Thoughts about the Ceremony?

Featured Replies

I honestly thought it was going to be a bit longer but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't cry though cause I wanted to focus on the playoff stuff tonight.

I didn't know Bill Robinson passed away, though. :( RIP to him ... back in 2007, too.

Lots of great moments today, but I loved when Conine brought the flags over to the new ballpark. Made me feel that the Florida Marlins are not lost.

Yep, a very symbolic moment.

The ceremony was pretty cool. I'm glad I not only watched it but recorded it! It was great to see all those players again and pay tribute to the Florida Marlins past and future.

One person we cannot forget though that's been apart of the Marlins past and future is....Admin! This site has been around since 2002 (correct me if I'm wrong..) and it's been a great outlet for all us Marlins Fans. And will continue to be. Just glad Admin didn't call it the FloridaMarlinsBaseball.com lol

Overall, a cool thing the whole ceremony and tribute to the past. Still upset Tommy Hutton couldn't be there, hopefully he'll get better soon and we'll see him in 2012. Anyway, great memories!

By the way, I might be crazy but...did anyone see Billy the Marlin there? I didn't notice him but I would think that's somewhat of a sign of the future if he wasn't seen there tonight.

I really enjoyed it. Seeing all those old faces, both figuratively and literally, and the Top 10 moments of Franchise History. Dang, that gave me chills.

Now, was it just me, or did Jack McKeon seem a bit...you know...tipsy?

All in all, great ceremony. Don't know why Luis couldn't make it though, he's not on a roster now is he?

It was pretty cool being there in person for it. Nice size crowd too. Conine taking off in the helicopter with the WS flags was a nice touch. It's a shame we loss, but it didn't matter.

I had a blast taunting Werth though.

Werthless?

Of course.

How could they forget to honor the best grounds crew in MLB? :( I wonder if they'll sell the tarp on E-Bay. :p

I think Jack was either A - fighting back emotions or B - he's elderly and couldn't find the right words to fill the gaps in the sentences on the way from his brain to his mouth.

Leiter was really roundabout and verbose. At one point I thought he was going to Bash hyzenga, but he didn't. I think he thought a very long time about what he was gonna say, and couldn't decide on one thing so he said them all.

I did enjoy how Wayne got booed.

Lol I thought the same thing...

But there was a point where it was evident that he was holding back tears.

Think about it... dude's old This all affects us in a way where we are all thinking 'wow there goes a chapter in my life'. Jack's probably thinking 'wow, there goes the last and best chapter in my life'.

Just like Hawkeye in the final episode of MASH

Does anybody know if there is a way to watch the full ceremony online. MASN was a bitch and didn't show post game and dishnetwork was blocking the game even after it was over.

I caught the last part of the player staff introductions and saw the end of jacks speech. What else did I miss?

The 10 ten Marlins moments, Jeff Conine hanging the WS flags at the new stadium, Introduction of Ozzie Guillen.

Thanks gizmo,

I forgot that I saw the top 10. Dish f***ed up and said I was blacked out after I had been watching 30 minutes of the ceremony AFTER then initial blackout from the game. Dish makes no sense and I always get the runaround from them saying MLB makes up their blackout restrictions when direct tv customers get to watch the games.

I definitely enjoyed seeing Piazza there. It showed a good bit of humor. Jack definitely seemed a little drunk, but he deserves it. It was amazing seeing all the old players and my only regret is that my brother's van didn't break down on the way so I could have seen all those old faces in person.

Billy was there, standing in front of the home dugout:

I was really happy about the respect for the entire organization's history, not just the Loria years. I didn't know that our organization could do something so classy.

Is it true that Hanley was boo'd?

I heard some booing from where I was before he came up to speak. After he said what he did, there were mostly cheers, but a stray boo or 2 could still be heard.
