Thoughts about the Ceremony?

Featured Replies

What a great night. Perfect weather, everybody getting along, and I only heard one idiot cheering for the Nats. The Wave officially made it around the park *twice* in the 7th until Petersen hit the infield single advancing Gaby to third. Oh, and I was shocked...SHOCKED...to see it only took 19 years for the entire crowd to get the Addams Family clap right. :D

For one last time:

Curtain call before the game.

Someone *ahem* had to pay a visit...

Can you believe this is a Marlins game in 2011?

No hiding the...unwelcomeness...on the field:

The final pitch in Florida Marlins history.

So, let the ceremonies begin...

And of course, all good things must come to an end. The final moment for this glorious team.

Goodbye Florida Marlins. :tissue:

I wouldn't even know what pictures to post. I took pictures and video of everything I could think of... final data size used on my SD card? 6.83 GB.

That world series trophy was just a replica right? It looked a bit small. If not, why was there only one?

It's the real trophy (there are usually a couple made, though).

Oh, and they're both there. The 2003 trophy is a little harder to see because it's silver instead of gold.

By the way, I might be crazy but...did anyone see Billy the Marlin there? I didn't notice him but I would think that's somewhat of a sign of the future if he wasn't seen there tonight.

Billy was there, standing in front of the home dugout:

Ah ok, thanks. And cool pictures btw! Thanks for posting them!

Piazza gave me a thumbs up, an laughed at my jerseys-

The ceremony was the sh*t in my books!

I'm not sure if anyone else realized this but I found it a bit interesting that it was the Marlins who played the Expos in their last game before they changed to the Nationals and left their stadium in Canada. The Marlins beat the Expos in that game.

And now, the last game for the Florida Marlins before becoming the Miami Marlins, and the last game at Sun Life Stadium was against the Nationals, in which the Nationals beat the Marlins.

Lots of great moments today, but I loved when Conine brought the flags over to the new ballpark. Made me feel that the Florida Marlins are not lost.

Yep, a very symbolic moment.

The ceremony was pretty cool. I'm glad I not only watched it but recorded it! It was great to see all those players again and pay tribute to the Florida Marlins past and future.

One person we cannot forget though that's been apart of the Marlins past and future is....Admin! This site has been around since 2002 (correct me if I'm wrong..) and it's been a great outlet for all us Marlins Fans. And will continue to be. Just glad Admin didn't call it the FloridaMarlinsBaseball.com lol

Overall, a cool thing the whole ceremony and tribute to the past. Still upset Tommy Hutton couldn't be there, hopefully he'll get better soon and we'll see him in 2012. Anyway, great memories!

Is there any way you could send me or upload a video file of the closing ceremonies? It would be greatly appreciated as a Marlin fan since their inception it kinda sucks living on the other side of the country.

A little disappointed Barger got no recognition. Little surprised at the boos Hanley got. Leiter showed his stuff just talking. Always bashing us on TV, and then telling us we better support this team in the new stadium.

Talked a bit with CJ before the game, and even got my pic with him. Finally. It was a nice touch to have the first National Anthem singer doing it again, but I would have liked CJ's wife doing it again. That woman has got a voice.

All in all a very good time. Went to the first game and the last game. Even managed a couple in between. Good times.

I liked the ceremony.... but I believe the end was a little anti-climatic. After Ozzie speaking, they didn't give an inspiring wrap-up. Or anything really. They just put on that sad Green Day song about the time of our lives and people began to leave. And then the players of the past began throwing shirts into the crowd along the 1B/3B lines haha.

But all in all, good ceremony!

Thanks for the pictures. I actually teared up a bit. Looking back i really wish i would have went to this game.

I would also like to see it. Unfortunately I couldn't get down there, and I really wanted to :nugget

I thought it was really nice, the pacing was good, great to see all those old faces.

Did anyone else notice that Niner was wearing his WS ring when taking the flags down, BUT not wearing it when he raised the flags?!?!? Not calling BS, but I noticed that immediately last night.

Actually, this is going to sound kind of dumb but I recorded the ceremonies on a DVD on my crappy dvd player that actually encrypts what you record so you can't just rip it to the computer! :( I know there's way to break the encryption but I don't have the software necessary to do that and then divide the long video file into pieces. Don't have the time to experiment right now either. I'm hopeful the full thing will be put online eventually though. Sorry guys. But if it doesn't happen eventually maybe I'll look into it

I also noticed that it was completely dark at the new stadium, which it was not at that time. I am pretty sure the Conine @ the new ballpark was taped ahead of time.

Maybe cause of the roof being closed. Never know.

Where are the flag poles at the new stadium?

They need to update the webcam. I want to know whats going on.

C'mon, would you have taken that thing into Little Havana?

They appeared to be outside a construction trailer with floodlights:

Wait... I stopped watching the Marlins last month, what happened to T.H.?

For me it was abit sad, just like my name says though, Florida Marlins Forever, maybe not on paper, but in our hearts.

Also,I was thinking to myself, I really hope I kept some Florida Marlins Gear, its kinda like a death, you take everything for granted untill its too late..
