What do the marlinsbaseball.com Cubans feel about his comments?

I don't care. Part of the reason people leave Cuba is because they can't say certain things. Some come here and don't let people say what they like. It's ridiculous.

I don't have a problem with him saying he loves Castro. I have a problem with him loving Castro. It just comes down to what kind of a person you are whether his love of Castro bothers you or not.

BTW, I'm not Cuban.

English is not his primary language and he clearly used the word wrong. Haven't you ever said something that was f***ed up and had to apologize for it later?

Just a couple days ago, he said that he read his comments and knew it would get him in trouble. He later clarified and said that he just respects Castro because he's been able to survive all these years; that's what he meant.

He doesn't support what Castro has done to Cuba.

Also

Relatively, he said. He also said "people are blowing it out of proportion."

Bingo.

He took me out of context too. The nature of them is far less acerbic in relative terms if you compare them to what Rocker said.

Comparing this to John Rocker is a non-sequitur. This is about Ozzie and his stupid comments and the local reaction to it.

I didn't make the comparison to Rocker. Someone else did. I was responding to it.

And it's cute that you pulled up a list of common logical fallacies after I accused you of employing some.

I bet you the majority of Cubans don't even give a f*** about this. Aside from the assholes who began planning some boycott or whatever, has anyone even said anything?

Ozzie is a guy who says stupid things.

I'm sure a lot of people can read and have already put what he said into context, especially after his apology the other day.

They should, and they should accept it, but they won't and haven't so far.......

Ozzie's comments are relatively innocuous; I think that many are blowing them out of proportion.

Oh really ?

Definition of INNOCUOUS

1

: producing no injury : harmless

2

: not likely to give offense or to arouse strong feelings or hostility

And hence I've said repeatedly that people are overreacting in a major way. The nature of the comments is innocuous, but people are blowing them out of proportion.

Who said they weren't ? But reality is THEY ARE.

You deal with the reality.

No idea what this means.

The reality is people are over-reacting. Just listen to the local media. So deal with the reality not what you believe they way people should react.

So this leads you to believe he might get shot tomorrow? The first article you gave also has people saying that it's his right to say whatever he wants.

^Actually, the reality is that you're overreacting.

He's not going to be assassinated and he very likely won't be fired either. That's reality.

I never said he would be. I said HE COULD be. As usual you and some others try to troll just about anything I post.

Right. There's a 0.00000001% chance he gets shot tomorrow. The reason people troll you is because you're the king of hyperbole. You're also the king of random comments that make absolutely no sense. Like saying that Lenny Harris should've thrown the first pitch at Marlins Park to honor Trayvon Martin. Or telling us on a message board, about your poor friend or whatever and going on to specifically mention her name, most likely without her consent.

5 bucks says friday will be sold out.

Eh, against the Astros, maybe not so much. Next Monday, however, when the Cubs come in...

It's the second game in the new park. it will be full. Ill be there saturday :)

The Ozzie "Castro comment" might not have been a big deal except for one thing, WIOD (the most listened to radio station in South Florida) is covering thi story with a fury. They were grilling Ozzie this morning as I was heading to work, and they are still grilling Ozzie over this at 4:00pm. The fallout has become huge.

Even the local news channels are now covering this story relentlessly. They will all probably cover the protest march from Little Havana to the ballpark tomorrow, so look for this story to continue for a few more days. I'm afraid Ozzie's apology wont do much. He has no idea how taboo Castro is here in Miami. Tomorrow the news networks and ESPN will probably be showing images of the protest, so this story has the potential to cause national embarrassment to the Marlins.

I'm glad he is coming to offer an apology tomorrow, as I believe he should. Hopefully people in the community will decide to accept the apology and we can move on.

hey, at least no one is talking about the 1-3 start.

2-3 now.

I'm disappointed I missed today's game, but I had to work. It is a real shame that such a sweet victory will be lessened by the controversy surrounding these comments. Hopefully a few more victories will make this stuff blow over and we can focus strictly on baseball again.

Whether or not this is awful, the Marlins should or shouldn't suspend him, etc....

WHAT A f***ING IDIOT.

He's right though, you should admire him. Fidel is like a roach, he kept coming back and never was able to be exterminated.

You have to admire his ability to escape death, anyones ability to escape it really. He even took a header off a stage and lived.

Fidels longevity is something to be admired- even if you hate his politics.

Chris the Cuban

I wasn't saying he isn't correct, in some sense. I'm echoing what ctina said: why in the hell would you even go there? He's an idiot for speaking in that way on that topic at all, even if he's right, even if he didn't mean anything by it, etc.

Yeah, nobody is trolling. He has a tendency to say some really questionable things and gets offended when he gets called out on them.

You don't say things like "there's a REAL possibility that Ozzie gets assassinated over this" or "Lenny Harris should have thrown out the first pitch" (paraphrasing) and not expect to receive some major flak in response. And even worse to be so persistent in defending those remarks.

WIOD is for right wing idiots. If they want to gripe about this. let em, but everyone else will ignore them.

Call it what you want, but the fact remains that WIOD has a huge audience in south Florida, and they hate the Marlins. A local radio host on WIOD that shall remain nameless was telling the audience last week that no one should go to Marlins games. Their hatred of the Marlins has been going on for a while, but Ozzie's comments just gave them a good excuse to continue.

I know things like that are unfair to the Marlins organization, but their rants against the Marlins really hurt us because of the amount of listeners some of these programs have.

yeah I get what you mean, but you're not going to please everyone. I know thousands of fans are happy with the evolution of our club now and are excited for the future. The baseball fans won't be swayed by the political rants and attacks that some groups will levy.
