April 9, 201214 yr ^Actually, the reality is that you're overreacting. He's not going to be assassinated and he very likely won't be fired either. That's reality. I never said he would be. I said HE COULD be. As usual you and some others try to troll just about anything I post. Right. There's a 0.00000001% chance he gets shot tomorrow. The reason people troll you is because you're the king of hyperbole. You're also the king of random comments that make absolutely no sense. Like saying that Lenny Harris should've thrown the first pitch at Marlins Park to honor Trayvon Martin. Or telling us on a message board, about your poor friend or whatever and going on to specifically mention her name, most likely without her consent. Yeah, nobody is trolling. He has a tendency to say some really questionable things and gets offended when he gets called out on them. You don't say things like "there's a REAL possibility that Ozzie gets assassinated over this" or "Lenny Harris should have thrown out the first pitch" (paraphrasing) and not expect to receive some major flak in response. And even worse to be so persistent in defending those remarks. I never once said Harris SHOULD throw out the 1st pitch, I only gave it as an example of what would have been better or more relevant to baseball in South Florida. But you are so set on finding anything to call me on, you of course take what I post out of context. That is trolling.
April 9, 201214 yr WIOD is for right wing idiots. If they want to gripe about this. let em, but everyone else will ignore them. Call it what you want, but the fact remains that WIOD has a huge audience in south Florida, and they hate the Marlins. A local radio host on WIOD that shall remain nameless was telling the audience last week that no one should go to Marlins games. Their hatred of the Marlins has been going on for a while, but Ozzie's comments just gave them a good excuse to continue. I know things like that are unfair to the Marlins organization, but their rants against the Marlins really hurt us because of the amount of listeners some of these programs have. It was Jimmy Cefalo, former Miami Dolphin wide receiver and noted Marlins hater.
April 9, 201214 yr I hope you are right Guppy. I'm Cuban, and I will continue to go to Marlins games and buy their merchandise. I might not like what Ozzie said, but I kind of expected him to insert his foot in his mouth, so this doesn't bother me as much as it might had it been someone else saying these things. As long as the team wins games and we are competitive, I am a happy Marlins fan. And when they are not, oh well, I'll still be a fan.

April 9, 201214 yr Not sure if posted, but I saw a couple tweets saying Ozzie is flying back to Miami tonight to apologize for the comments. Hopefully that will end everything or at least calm it down a ton. I don 't think so; it has mushroomed where many area leaders asking for his dismissal.
April 9, 201214 yr Looks like the Miami-Dade Commissioners and our mayor are milking this story for political capital. They just showed some of our Commissioners on Channel 7 asking for Ozzie's resignation, and the mayor's statement criticizing the team. Typical politicians, got to get involved in matters that don't concern them and make things worse.
April 9, 201214 yr I KNEW this would turn political. The Cuban exile community never misses a chance to force their politics into everything.
April 9, 201214 yr I feel like I have higher expectations than anyone, including personal friends, in reference to attendance.

April 9, 201214 yr Jimmy Ceffalo is probably just a little bitter because the Dolphins still suck. I wasn't going to go there, so thanks.
April 9, 201214 yr Also Relatively, he said. He also said "people are blowing it out of proportion." Bingo. He took me out of context too. The nature of them is far less acerbic in relative terms if you compare them to what Rocker said. Comparing this to John Rocker is a non-sequitur. This is about Ozzie and his stupid comments and the local reaction to it. It's not local reaction. Last time I checked there were over 11 pages of comments on Rosenthal article. Not all are talking about Ozzie but enough are. Doesn't seem much middle ground in the comments.
April 9, 201214 yr I can't believe this is even a story. It was just a wisecrack...Everybody wants to be PC nowadays. Bleep outta here...
April 9, 201214 yr I'd hesitate taking comment threads too seriously. Anything that involves politics or race will reach a thousand pages.
April 9, 201214 yr I had multiple family members killed by the firing squads of Fidel Castro. Ozzie Guillen can go * himself. I am still a Marlins fan. I love the team. I will always be a fan. And I will always support them. But I am no Ozzie Guillen fan. And people who says its blown out of proportion are doing the dangerous thing many Americans do, and thats interjecting opinions about situations they have no possibility in knowing how the affected party feels. Fidel is Cuba's Hitler as Dan LeBetard said. If you talk to Jews who had people killed during his regime, I am sure a comment in which Casto was replaced with Hitler would make them very upset. I understand people HATING negative PR with their beloved team, but its not just some little thing that will get tossed to the side. Saying you respect a murderer, especially one who had your relatives killed, is not going to go over well. Especially in Miami.

That's really how I view Ozzie's comments here, from what I've seen.
April 9, 201214 yr My family is Cuban and I really don't care about his comments (or Fidel Castro for that matter).
April 9, 201214 yr Look at him, playing the bongos. What a dick. How come Hanley isn't playing with him?! Dick Bongos!

I know things like that are unfair to the Marlins organization, but their rants against the Marlins really hurt us because of the amount of listeners some of these programs have. yeah I get what you mean, but you're not going to please everyone. I know thousands of fans are happy with the evolution of our club now and are excited for the future. The baseball fans won't be swayed by the political rants and attacks that some groups will levy. But they be by the Miami politicans who are calling for Guillen's resignation. Think about it; Loria and Samson have been working with these people for many years and because of this relationship we now have a new park. Will it come a time the Marlins made need these same people who have worked with on this venture may need them again if something comes up? Like lawsuits from Braman or some else (no matter how idiotic they may be), permits, etc., etc., and many other things which occur in the future?? Since Martinez says a resignation is the only satisfactory results, could be ignoring this request lead to complications we don't want to think about? I know I'm writing this very vague because the fear is there in my thoughts about this beautiful park and a new beginning in Little HavannaYet I don't know if it my mind just doesn't want problems. And ignoring these politicians may have no impact on the Marlins' future, but could it??
April 9, 201214 yr Ozzie likes to get drunk after games win or lose, he's always in a win/win situation. He drinks if they win because he's happy he drinks if they lose because he's depressed.

That's really how I view Ozzie's comments here, from what I've seen. Although I agree with your comparison it doesn't mean the comment doesn't hurt a group of people. And if it hurts a group of people, in particular a group which surrounds your new home, why would people not be offended? In this case I believe a good portion of the ownership group can understand it because of their ethnic background. It may make them a lot more sensitive to what the statement means to others.
