Unless they think he's ready and they trade Ruggiano to a contender... I would be all for him on the ML roster. Like Brantly, Dietrich, Hech, etc why not let him learn on the big league field? As many point out, he won't get better instruction anywhere else. I'm not worried about Yelich not hitting, he is a natural hitter and he will figure things out regardless of what level he's at.

Well I don't know about sweep, but I think the series comes down to how well our pitchers perform. I have much more confidence in the starters now than a few months ago though.

Yeah, JP is the logical choice.

If Marisnick also gets called up with Yelich for some reason, then yeah, Ruggiano would also go, but JP and Polanco pretty much need to be the first ones out the door.

Ruggiano, on the other hand can be a nice bat for a good team down the stretch and will be gone because he has value and no future with our team.

 

Yelich will be, and should be, starting in our OF by the end of the month. I agree with Frisaro that Marisnick should be in Double-A the remainder of the year, despite his solid numbers he is still raw and needs to continue to develop. Yelich is good enough that he can develop on the ML team and can make adjustments here, plus we need SOMEONE to hit lead off that can provide an OBP over .300.

I agree, but like Wild Card said they have 0 trade value and the fish would be jerks if they DFA/cut JP I think since he is an integral piece in marlins lore.

1. JP is still useful in the role you just described, so he won't be released. He can pinch hit in a situation where you NEED contact and/or need a lefty, and can pinch run.

2. Polanco is a useful utility guy. Gold glove defense at 2/3B, can make contact in almost any AB, basically he's a right-handed JP off the bench with D and without speed.

 

No need to release either, but PLEASE keep them both on the bench. They can be useful in part time roles, and they make too much guaranteed $$$ to release, lol.

 

3. Ruggiano will only be traded if he can bring back enough value to make it worth their while. If he can't bring back value, why would they deal him? He's exactly what they want in a 4th OF Cody Ross-type guy... Decent bat, great glove, and cheap. I just can't imagine a contender not trying to get him, and it won't take too much... just SOMETHING of value.

I don't disagree, if we're playing to win the division. However, we aren't in contention, and it really doesn't matter. For that reason, JP will be here all season. But, for the sake of argument, your proposed bench only includes one REAL outfielder in Ruggiano. Sure, Lucas and Dobbs can play out there, but not really.

I also agree, however, Polanco IS here. He isn't going anywhere, and that won't change unless there is a team out there that thinks he is worth trading any kind of marginal prospect for. I mean, the Nats thought Scott Hairston was worth acquiring...there's hope, right!?

I dont think there will be any teams lining up to sign a player like Ruggiano hitting near the mendoza line. If he gets his average up, sure but right now he is most likely not on any contenders radar.
