This Is A Batting Order...

Featured Replies

If we agree that this batting order is the best we've put out there offensively in quite some time, how's it look if we use that order as a basis for a potential (yet still realistic) 2014 lineup...

1. Coghlan 3B

2. Dietrich 2B

3. Yelich LF

4. Stanton RF

5. Ozuna CF

6. Morrison 1B

7. Free Agent C

8. Hechavarria SS

9. Pitcher

How's that as a starting point for 2014?

I hate predicting future seasons before this one has finished but this lineup had me thinking so have at it...

Yes, this is definitely much more realistic than wild cards..... He has a little wishful thinking going on....

Three straight lefties to start off, and Dietrich strikes out too much to bat second.

However, I don't have much to offer in terms of a suggestion to change this up, so...

I agree with both statements. Not wild about 3 straight lefties, but the only other option would be below with Hech batting second. The only thing that makes me like the idea of him batting second is that he should get a ton of pitches to hit. This lineup breaks up the lefties and 3-7 could achieve some strong numbers. The ONLY way this lineup works, however, is if Coghlan gets on base enough to stay in the leadoff spot. If he can't leadoff, then Yelich can't hit third, Stanton can't hit cleanup, etc. It basically allows us to have almost every hitter in their natural spot of the order, which is huge.

1. Coghlan 3B

2. Hechavarria SS

3. Yelich LF

4. Stanton RF

5. Morrison 1B

6. Ozuna/Marisnick CF

7. Dietrich 2B

8. Mathis/FA C

9. Pitcher

If Cogs can't hit leadoff, then:

LF Yelich

SS Hech

1B Morrison

RF Stanton

2B Dietrich

CF Ozuna/Marisnick

3B Coghlan

C LOLOLOLOL

Pitcher

Maybe.

Even then, not a fan of Deets right behind GCMS.

Not sure I want Morrison in next years lineup. He might be the best option if we can't sign Abreu but that doesn't say much.

I like him in a platoon role, but he should never start against LHP. I wish the Marlins had Gaby Sanchez or someone like him.

Methinks if Napoli came here, he'd play every day, not in a platoon role. The power would be nice. Then again, his injury problems are a concern and he's not exactly demolishing the ball. .797 OPS with half his games at Fenway, and he's been taking advantage of that wall - 33 doubles, already a career high. He'd probably crash and burn with us, even in a platoon role.

I'm not worried about LoMo against lefties. However, Lucas hits LHP just fine and would be adequate as a spot starter.

Logan's career numbers vs. Lefties aren't that bad.

He's right. .723 OPS against them. This year is an off-year...

Not really an off year. The career split is inflated by insane numbers vs LHP in 2010 (.926 OPS). That's sort of ancient history. His track record against LHP hasn't been nearly as great as of late and there isn't much reason to view his numbers this year as an outlier.

Yeah, I don't think that I'd consider Napoli as a platoon player. He wouldn't come that cheap, either.

FINE!!!!!! (good points and I agree after looking at it)

Yes, his 2010 was abnormally high. His 2013 is abnormally low. Small sample sizes create outliers. Drop both and one might notice that his numbers vs. LH are still not all that bad.

Damnit, this is the Internet. We do not allow agreements nor changing of original opinions.

Well obviously if he doesn't come in for a platoon role than I don't think we should bring him in. So I don't know why you cited his overall production.

He might not accept the role but he would be a good player to bring in if he were willing to, IMO.

We could probably get good production without paying nearly as much money as Napoli is going to get.

Not that it matters since the Marlins front office doesn't believe in platoons. The last time they had one that worked was Baker/Paulino.

I don't think that 2010 should be dropped because of a small sample size. It should be dropped because it was so long ago and Morrison seems to have changed his approach to the plate since then.

The 2013 numbers are a small sample size, but if you combine those figures with his numbers against LHP from 2011-2013 (making the sample size more reasonable), his numbers against LHP are pretty bad, especially for first base.

This is a good point. They'll either keep Morrison to bat full time or just get rid of him. The only viable option seems to be Abreau but I don't think they're too high on him.

You shouldn't worry... thats the organizations job.... and they aren't very good at it.

I just looked up Napoli's splits for the first time and he's definitely not a platoon candidate. If the Marlins wanted him it would be to replace Morrison full time at first base.

His career numbers are better than I expected. Much better than Morrison's. I only took a look at his 2013 splits.

I don't think he'll be an option for us, though.

Just a note, since this thread started they have done a pretty good job scoring runs...
