Entendu
Why would they go after Jones? This makes no sense at all.
Admin
I guess no Napoli then? Jones deal isn't 100% done yet but it's close so looking like Napoli won't be happening as of now. Maybe things will change although I doubt it.
gizmo
I guess no Napoli then? He's going to end up back in Boston I'm betting. We only had an outside shot of landing him, hence the stupid desperation to get Jones.
Wild Card
Yeah, unfortunately it looks like it's gonna happen. Probable two years too. I sincerely hope this is as a reserve outfielder/1B, or as a platoon guy with Ruggiano in LF while Ozuna/Marisnick works in the minors. I really hope we don't trade LoMo to make room for Garrett fucking Jones...
Mr. Baller
Marlins are not going after Napoli despite reports. Marlins do not want to lose any draft picks for free agents this off season.

That's not the reason, our first rounder is protected anyway. We would've given up the 2nd rounder but bidding on Napoli probably got out of hand. And we 100% did try for Napoli. pollythewog
Jones career ops against lefties is like .525 or something insanely bad. If he becomes our full time 1b the stupidity of such is well stupid

I know we had no interest in signing Napoli, not talking out of my ass here, but we we're never really "in" on him. The Marlins want to keep all 4 of their early picks. They will not sign anybody that makes them lose a pick.
pollythewog
I dont understand the Jones hateHes is a solid player. He has shitty defense and besides HR (which he is barely okay at for a 1b) has shitty offense. His offense is beyond shitty against lefties. What is there to like about him? Entendu
Rosenthal now reporting Marlins are "closing in" on Garrett Jones why why why why why why why?!?!?!? Obviously, they're going to have to platoon him with someoneWhat is "platoon?"

If he becomes our full time 1b the stupidity of such is well stupid Unless we end up platooning Jones and Morrison in the end. Jones career OPS against RHP is .826 and Lomo against LHP is .707. Not ideal, but it's a thought.

pollythewog
We'd be better off with gaby sanchez than garret jones Let's not say things we can't take back. It's true though. Gaby outperformed Jones last year and he had less ABs
Wild Card
We'd be better off with gaby sanchez than garret jones Already mentioned that and I agree. Gaby OPS'd almost 1.000 against lefties last year. A Platoon of him and LoMo would be fun. We should have never moved him for Gorkys "I now play for the Royals, anyway" Hernandez. They'll try to deal LoMo for a 3b or more likely just prospects. Not sure I get it either, would be sort of like the Furcal signing.
