April 24, 201412 yr Ed lucas can drive in runs. When is he coming back? Whenever he's done with his doctoral dissertation.
April 24, 201412 yr Author Whenever he's done with his doctoral dissertation. OH MY GOD WAIT WHERE DID HE GO TO COLLEGE?
April 24, 201412 yr OH MY GOD WAIT WHERE DID HE GO TO COLLEGE? I think it was Princeton. No, wait, Stanford. That's it.
April 24, 201412 yr Blasphemy! You're not allowed to be a Debbie Downer here! The Marlins are absolutely awesome! They've got a great owner who gives the front office everything they need to succeed, a fantastic fan base who fills the stadium for every game, and most certainly will be in the World Series every season. Holy shit, you are so annoying.
April 24, 201412 yr So we're just gonna ignore that every Braves starting pitcher has an ERA under 2.5 (the main four have an ERA under 2)? But nope, Marlins offense is awful once again why did we ever believe they could be anything good WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. Some of you guys overreact like nobodies business. This offense isn't bad. It's not top 5 in baseball like the numbers said early, but it's not bottom 5 in baseball. The Braves are a hell of a team, likely the top wild card team when it's all said and done. Give credit when credit is due. Braves came up big this series. The way they came up with clutch hits when they needed them just showed what kind of team they are. They are the team we should aspire to become within the year. I'm not sure how anyone can say with absolute certainty that this is not a bottom-5 offense in baseball.
April 24, 201412 yr I'm not sure how anyone can say with absolute certainty that this is not a bottom-5 offense in baseball. If the marlins did a few intelligent things most teams would do like not let Jones start every day and let Dietrich play 2nd I'd think that'd help a lot in regards to not being a bottom 5 offense. But yeah, with Jones in against LHP and Solano/Furcal our options at 2nd at this point bottom 5 is certainly not out of the question. This team strikes out like 25% of the time or something ridiculous. I'm cautiously optimistic McGehee is gonna stay in the low 700s OPS wise which obviously is a huge upgrade for us and I think our OF is pretty darn good at hitting and stuff. Salty is fine so I dunno.
April 24, 201412 yr The offense is a lot betrer than last year. Not MLB worst anymore. Probably around bottom 10 which is a big improvement.

Four runs in three games is terrible no matter who you are facing.

Four runs in three games is terrible no matter who you are facing. The Braves pitching staff isn't even that good. Wood was great, but Tehearan and Harang were extremely hittable. That was more the marlins sucking than those guys pitching well.

If they aren't that good, they've certainly fooled the rest of the league with their Major League leading rotation ERA...
April 24, 201412 yr If they aren't that good, they've certainly fooled the rest of the league with their Major League leading rotation ERA... Talk to me in a month.
April 24, 201412 yr ERA! The be all end all of pitching statistics. Woo! ERA is not like batting average, it's still a pretty useful statistic and a good indication of performance. And in a month or not, right now they're lights out.
April 25, 201412 yr ERA is not like batting average, it's still a pretty useful statistic and a good indication of performance. And in a month or not, right now they're lights out. And the first 5 games of the season the marlins had the best offense in the league. What's your point?
April 25, 201412 yr And the first 5 games of the season the marlins had the best offense in the league. What's your point? Yeah but what was the hitter's ERA?
April 25, 201412 yr And the first 5 games of the season the marlins had the best offense in the league. What's your point? And we're not discussing the Braves first turn in the rotation, we're talking about nearly 20% through the season.
April 25, 201412 yr And we're not discussing the Braves first turn in the rotation, we're talking about nearly 20% through the season. That's quite a roundup since only 13% of the season has actually been played for the Braves (21 of 162 games).
April 25, 201412 yr That's quite a roundup since only 13% of the season has actually been played for the Braves (21 of 162 games). Still quite a bit more significant than 5 days, wouldn't you agree?
