Rodon is supposedly gonna be seeking a bonus for over 6 million. If we take a him and he gets a huge bonus I see him coming up in the 2nd half.

I could see him getting started in Jax.

If he succeeds, and someone is not producing at the ML level, AND we are still contending... It could happen. But it would probably have to be that perfect storm.

#1 You're retarded. I have read several times that scouts think he has the best amateur slider ever and I am happy to repost it for you to read as well.

#2 Signing the second overall pick, whoever it is, is a necessary expense and you worry about the signability of the other picks when you make them, not this one.

#3 Of course the coach was an idiot, but the work load hasn't fazed him. You have to be blind to not look at the work load and think "man, this kid could probably throw 200 innings in the majors next year".

#4 You really are slow if you don't consider Rodon a safe pick. Just look at the statistics comparing top 5 prep picks against top 5 collegiate picks. It's not even close.

1. Please do. I googled it and found nothing corroborating your claim.

3. It is actually the complete opposite. You have no idea if the work load phased him(he was actually fairly pedestrian against ACC competition, including a 1.51 WHIP in ACC play[61 innings] and it was against their lesser non conference competition where he was a standout[31 innings]).

4. He is not a safe pick. No one with that workload is a safe pick. Once again it is the complete opposite.

The slider thing is pretty accurate. Even if not stated as best slider in draft ever, it's always considered a plus-plus pitch. Many think it'd be one of the better ones in the MLB

It's a stretch to say it's the best amateur slider ever, but I have read that. It's certainly considered the best pitch in the draft along with Kolek's fastball.

So this will be the official thread then, correct? Admin since you gotz all the power would it be possible to change the thread title to "Official 2014 MLB Draft Thread" plz pretty plz with sugar on top?

Since you asked nicely

#1. He might have better stuff, but not overall. The part about the slider is false.

#2. There different levels of expense, ones that really handicap you in later rounds, ones that dont as much.

#3. Not a single person looks at his college workload and says "most durable". They think "what the f*** was his coach thinking"?

#4. This is jut an absurd statement on your part.

I haven't read much of the rest of the argument between you and Wild Card, but this part stuck out to me. Rodon's slider is his best quality, and it is filthy as hell. That slider is the best pitch outside of Kolek's fastball in this draft right now, and that slider has been a huge reason why he's been as successful as he's been. If he could get a few other pitches at the level of his slider, he'd be David Price 2.0

Seriously,

I don't want Jackson.

Harper was the #1 pick because of his potential and his position- Catcher. Once the Nats moved him to LF, I feel like he lost almost all of his value. Jackson as a C is worth the top 5 pick. If a team moves him, I think he's a 10-25overall pick.

With that, I don't want a catcher- or an OF. C's take long to develop, and a OF can be found routinely.

Get Rodon, maybe Kolek--- but don't take Jackson and move him to the OF>

I'll posted my thoughts here too so I can make fun of how terrible my opinion is when I'm combing through this thread in four years

Even if Houston takes Rodon I'm happy with Kolek. I feel like Kolek is the Jonathan Gray of this draft and the high school equivalent of Gray ain't too bad.

But Rodon is Rodon. Lazy mechanics at times, injury concerns, and money issues nonwithstanding, he's a great pitcher who despite what others say handled himself extremely well under intense scrutiny this year. He should probably be the #1 overall pick based on career pedigree alone, but I understand the Astros mindset since Rodon has a high combustibility as a prospect. But if Rodon reaches that ceiling that we all know he's capable of reaching...Rodon/Fernandez will be damn scary come 2016.

Watching MLB Network show the team's Draft Rooms... One year we should all gather in an MB.com draft room sitting at laptops, posting on the boards from the same room as we intently follow the draft. We can sit wild card and penguino next to eachother.

Fuck this guy, his monitor guy- and the Braves. They draft guys who have trouble with the curve. Dicks.
