July 14, 201412 yr If the Braves take on basically all of Uggla's remaining salary and we give up a "who gives a crap" prospect in return, I see no reason for not wanting Uggla back despite the obvious bridges burnt thing. I mean right now we're starting guys like Solano and Lucas at the position. We're six games under .500 and falling out of contention. Honestly going after Uggla becomes a low risk, potential decent reward if he really is a guy in need of a change of scenery. Obviously if Uggla plays here like he's been doing in Atlanta since the trade then he isn't worth a starting spot anywhere, but given our position in the standings Uggla seems like one of those trade candidates that under the right circumstances makes sense to go after. Doesn't hurt the team's long term plans and if he continues to suck here, it's really no harm no foul. Dietrich isn't starting here so it isn't like Uggla stealing playing time from him anyway or stunting anybody's growth.
July 14, 201412 yr Dietrich isn't starting here so it isn't like Uggla stealing playing time from him anyway or stunting anybody's growth. Yes but judging this organization, Uggla will be starting over Dietrech when that's not necessary but possible.
July 14, 201412 yr I defended Dietrich early but his numbers really don't warrant him starting. His defense is atrocious and his offense is just ok. His best aspect is that he displays good power at times but the truth of the matter is we really don't have a long term solution at 2B in any of the guys we're putting out there. If we want to somehow make some kind of push this year Solano/Dietrich/Lucas won't do at 2B either. I'm not saying Uggla does, but when nothing is working you need to think outside the box and try some options that might not seem conventional. Right now Uggla is the perfect "buy low" candidate if the Marlins are willing to take the chance and the Braves are really desperate to unload him.
July 15, 201412 yr Yes! Lets bring back Mr. Magoo!! I loved Uggla when he was here, but he can't see enough to hit above the Mendoza line, No thanks
July 15, 201412 yr One thing I'll give to Uggla, dude knows how to walk. He is the poster child for someone who was able to learn plate discipline and improved year after year. Even last year, he hit just .179 with an OBP of .309. That and those 22 HR's managed to keep him even just a little bit valuable. Now that the power and patience is gone... you have Donovan Solano!
July 15, 201412 yr Give me Dan over Solano any day ...At this point in their careers...? Eh. I couldn't care less either way. At least Donovan can come off the bench and hit a single, or at least put the ball in play if needed, and provide average defense around the IF. Uggla can only play 2B, and barely, with the miniscule possibility he will hit a home run or walk. I'd honestly rather have Solano if you made me choose.
July 15, 201412 yr No, it wouldn't be worth it. He 'slugged' .362. Congratulations, 22 HRs. He also struck out 171 times. That's about as atrocious of a line as I can think of. 22 HRs and only 55 RBIs! 55!!! That's worse than Mike Jacobs! Solano
July 15, 201412 yr I read an article on MLB saying that the Marlins wanted a speedy second baseman. Last time I checked Uggla doesn't run like he used to.. Source: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140713&content_id=84510110¬ebook_id=84510196&vkey=notebook_mia&c_id=mia
July 15, 201412 yr I'd be shocked by that article if I thought the Marlins actually were going to add players to make a playoff push. the only thing I believe there is they'll give Turner another chance in the rotation.

July 15, 201412 yr I'd rather have solano than uggla. I'd rather have neither, but if we got at least 2013 uggla #s back that would still be a pretty serious offensive upgrade over Solano
July 15, 201412 yr FTFY Genetically cannot hustle? What the hell DJs that even mean? Wait... you're gonna comment on that about Solano... have you SEEN Uggla run recently?
July 15, 201412 yr I bet they try to get Bonifacio back I, for one, would love Bonifacio back. He was fun, aside from that abysmal first season. Plus, he's only one of three Marlins I have ever met. The others being Jorge Cantu and ... erm ... Billy the Marlin.

July 15, 201412 yr What? That I haven't met them? I have photographic proof. I'm just having a laugh and wanted to say bollocks. I totally believed you.
