The Marlins got 4 of his 5 best WAR years (and all 5 Marlins years were good.) 800+ OPS every year. 15.6 WAR (BR.) What's 1 WAR worth? 3 mill? 5 mill? Take your pick, the Marlins got somewhere between 47 and 78 mill worth of performance out of him for 14 mill. Out of years 6 and 7 ATL got his 4th and 7th best year for 62 mill and it was all downhill from there. Highest OPS .764. '14 line -- .162/.241/.231/.472 with a -1.0 WAR. Solano is better than that for 500K. Total WAR in his 3.5 ATL years -- 2.5 -- oops, that's 25 mill/WAR. Worst acquisition in ATL history by a large factor. A waste of about 50 mill, give or take. Far worse than the Marlins's Heath Bar mistake. That was only 27 mill for nothing. Uggla doesn't need a change of scenery, he needs to be 28 years old. But he's laughing all the way to the bank, 76 mill career gross less fed tax/state tax/agent fees/other fees will still leave him about 30 mill net, assuming that he hasn't spent it all on wine, women and song. I want nothing to do with him. He's done.

July 20, 201412 yr Yeah he's hitting so far below replacement level I don't see much interest from anyone. I'm really curious as to what actually happened, since apparently he fixed the eyesight problems that some people thought were causing his downturn.

July 22, 201412 yr Is there such a thing as a prospect who isn't a high risk/reward player? Well, there are prospects that many scouts tend to categorize as "can't miss". I don't think Hanley was considered a "Can't Miss" prospect at the time of that deal. In fact, if I recall correctly, the Red Sox were only willing to part with him because of a sub par Double-A season in 2005 that left his stock in decline.

I imagine Kyle Skipworth, Matt Dominguez, and Taylor Tankersley right away. Even if successful, they're going to be assuming average roles at their potential.
