August 8, 201411 yr http://mweb.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24653369/marlins-dont-seem-optimistic-on-long-term-deal-for-giancarlo-stanton I'm torn here. I'd like to keep him, not because he's all that indispensable, but because I know with our management, they would trade him for a decent, Jones type guy, and 3 Kevin Gregg's. All we would see for years is how amazing Stanton is doing elsewhere just like Hanley and Cabrera. Plus I'm pretty sick of not being able to buy a marlins jersey because every good guy we have is on the chopping block constantly.
August 8, 201411 yr Why don't you buy one without a name, or even put your own name. Or buy a Yelich? Or Fernandez? We have atleast 5 more years with those.
August 8, 201411 yr Stanton is a top 10 player in baseball, might win the NL MVP if Kershaw slips, and not even close to his prime. Not indispensable? What? This article is also brought to you by "duh." If they were going to sign him, it was two years ago. Just another thing in the long line of fuck ups under Loria. No way they give him a $200+ million contract this offseason, or would even accept that at this point given how awful this organization is run. Especially after getting paid in arb1 and a very very healthy tender coming next year no matter what happens here on out. He's going to be traded. Or they are going to keep him and let him walk for the draft picks in 2016 if they are contending. Enjoy him while he is here. Just like Cabrera.
August 8, 201411 yr Tomorrow's article may as well be "The sun is hot". But how hot is it? LIKE this post for details! Click here to meet hot singles in your area!

Three years ago, unless you're talking about midseason 2012 when he was on that ridiculous hot streak. There is absolutely 0% chance he would've signed any extension in the 2012 offseason after the fire sale trade.

There is absolutely 0% chance he would've signed any extension in the 2012 offseason after the fire sale trade. I'm not going to argue this, but if they gave him the Cargo deal (7/$80 range) after 2012, he would have taken it a FULL year from arbitration and having injury concerns. "Fire sale" be damned - money talks to a guy who makes $500k a year and is club controlled for 4+ seasons. No one has that level of spite. It doesn't matter now, the overall point is the same - this front office missed countless opportunities between 2011-start of 2014 to offer him something that would be reasonable to both sides, and failed to secure him at every turn. The ship has sailed. Stanton has gotten paid real money in arbitration and is entitled to $10-12 next year (likely more if he keeps jacking) and the Marlins have no shot at keeping him unless they give him an absolutely incredible $200, maybe closer to $250 million, contract. The leverage is gone. Enjoy him while he is here.
August 8, 201411 yr Hey Guys, I'm kinda scared, I heard water is wet..... Is that true and what can I trade it for?
August 8, 201411 yr Would 7 years 170 million be enough to sign Stanton? That may be too much. In my opinion, Stanton is worth 20MM and a Limited No Trade Clause. 25MM without it. 5 Years, 100 Million and Limited NTC would be my main offer. Second offer is 6 years/150 and a movement clause incase he gets traded that covers taxes and the like. Third offer is 10/200 and pray he accepts.
August 8, 201411 yr The Marlins would first have to give him a reason other than money to want to stay, but that's been in previous articles written about beating a dead horse!
August 8, 201411 yr That horse has been dug up and beaten 10 times already But the carcass is still intact..... When will we harvest said horse for meat? (Stanton's still here, when will we trade him for some shitty prospects?)
August 8, 201411 yr Might as well consolidate all these repetitive Stanton threads into one big thread. Same ol shit really.
August 9, 201411 yr I really never know what this FO is trying to do. Are they rebuilding? Are they attempting to compete? Who knows. Dumping Turner, Marisnick, and Moran for Jarred Cosart suggests they are done rebuilding, but this team still needs help.
August 9, 201411 yr I can honestly admit that I, Vincent James "deal man" gralewski, say Stanton was clutch today because the home run was hit when it really counted today. Good job.
August 9, 201411 yr This team needs an identity. As an accountant I cannot believe how bad this franchise is run. If you want people to support your product you need some consistency.
August 9, 201411 yr This team needs an identity. As an accountant I cannot believe how bad this franchise is run. If you want people to support your product you need some consistency. Winning creates the identity. It's a common misconception in baseball that the Marlins are the only team to trade away players. Hearing fans complain whenMiami makes a trade , you'd think every baseball team is full of lifers like Jeter and Mariano.
August 9, 201411 yr And how do you expect to have winning seasons when you do not sign your superstars long term? I do not have access to the Marlins financial statements but any sane person does not trade players like Stanton/Cabrera away. This team can compete for years to come if the owners show a little support to its product.
August 9, 201411 yr Stanton hasn't been traded away last time I checked. And you can have winning seasons without having people locked up for long deals. The Marlins themselves have done it twice without locking anyone up. Look, I don't wanna sound like I'm purposely contradicting you because I do know where ur coming from. I've just always felt the popular stupidity that the Marlins lose because "they trade everyone away" or don'tlock up their stars has grown into such an overblown myth. I'm just sick of hearing it.
