Bret Hart
The Cardinals were hit with devastating news on Sunday, when it was learned that top prospect Oscar Taveras was killed in a car accident back home in the Dominican Republic. Taveras’ agent, Brian Mejia, confirmed the news to MLB.com. Reached by home, general manager John Mozeliak said that he, too, had heard from Mejia, but that the organization was waiting for a few more details before confirming the news with a public statement. Mozeliak did say: “Obviously, we have deep condolences to his family. We are still waiting for more details before issuing a full statement.” Taveras was 22. http://langosch.mlblogs.com/2014/10/26/oscar-taveras-killed-in-car-accident/ RIP Oscar. It's Unbelievable. Michael
This was very upsetting to hear. Great young talent, taken from us too soon. RIP Oscar Taveras.
Piazza31
I feel for his family... and sadly I'm worried it wasn't by his own hand. If you collect memoribillia, you'd have noticed all of his game worn items from his rookie year have surfaced since the moment he was written into the lineup card. Just recently, in the last week he sold not only his Jersey from his ALDS game 2 Home Run, but also his first MLB Hit/ HR Ball, all of his memorable bats, shoes , socks, cleats, hats, balls, jerseys, pants and even some of his minor league items. The skeptic in me thinks he was run off the road in the DR or killed because of some financial situation or debt he or his family had/has. His life was tragically cut short, and the Cardinals waiting to put out a press release is telling me there's more to this. May he and his family find peace in the fact that so many are shaken by his death. God bless.

Wild Card
At least his last baseball moment was a memorable one... A game tying home run, in St. Louis, in the post-season, getting a curtain call... That's a hell of a way to end a career. Too bad it shouldn't have ended for twenty years. His last baseball memory was recording an out actually. Regardless, its way too soon for his life to end. Would rather him blow out both knees and never play again than see his life end so tragically. I'd like for you to also substantiate your wild claims from earlier instead of offering wild conjecture, that has not been verified anywhere else but inside your conspiracy mind I presume. Piazza31
I am and my apologies. It's been stated he drove off the road on a highway he's traveled countless times before, and the fact the DR police haven't ruled it an accident or homicide either way is what's causing my mind to turn. Earlier, the cardinals were waiting on releasing a statement until more facts were known- however they reversed course and did so late that night. It may be wild conjecture, but I believe there's more to this.

The Cardinals waited because well they wanted to confirm that he in fact died and probably wanted to doubly make sure, you dont want to put out something that someone died and then come to find out they didnt actually die in that event. This organization has been through this a couple times before remember.

It was also confirmed by his agent and relatives. So because of that, there is some conspiracy? ok. How about this? He was driving a 2014 Camaro on a slick road. Camaro's suck in wet conditions, proven by article after article. Oscar had this thing for taking chances and risks.. There have been reports that he was speeding which would fit your little conspiracy theory I guess except for the fact that he was a young 22 year old kid thinking he is invincible taking chances and flying down a road showing off his new toy. Things happen. In 2014 in this social media world where if dont report the news immediately you are hiding something. My assumption is that they waited so long because they wanted to draft the PR release in a way that expressed their true feelings. But yes... Its a conspiracy that the DR is covering up. Ok. I never said there was a conspiracy that the DR was covering up. I said my own opinion and what I believed at the time. I wouldn't be shocked to find out I'm right, but I'm also hoping in wrong.
