Stanton agrees to 13-year deal

Featured Replies

So is it technically signed Lawrence?

They are in agreement that the contact will get signed. It's pretty much done. Its' not a up in the air thing when signing a free agent and we gotta wait on the passing the physical results.

Can we please lock up the rest of the core early? Let's start with Yelich. Go!

Yes! Start with Yelich who I think they have an excellent chance with getting it done early. Especially now that he knows Stanton will be hitting behind him for the next 5 years at least!!

1st the narrative was they wont sign Stanton long-term because we're cheap; yada yada...

now all we're gonna hear is.. "ok, when are they gonna trade him"

ugh, so annoying.

Usually its 10%, good thing about Florida is no state income tax. So Giancarlo is banking! lol

It's not 10%. That was a long time ago.

Also reading a lot of "Way to go Loria, cripple the team forever with a big contract"

What is it?

I believe it's 3-5%, depending on a lot of things.

Stanton's agent? Probably 3% because he's a superstar.

It's true unless we become a $100m payroll team soon. I'd imagine Loria has promised Stanton this will happen.

Has Stanton bought his house yet?

Yeah just looking it up I see that. Scott Boras ranks around the highest right near 5%

Exactly. Boras might be able to get you more, but he will take more. Stanton basically writes his own check, no need to pay someone 5%.

This has to rank up there in the top five of greatest Marlins moments as a franchise. I'm guessing Opening day, WS 1, WS 2, New Stadium, and Giancarlo Contract?

Also, I am not worried about him opting out in five years. A lot can happen in five years both good or bad. Heck, many on this board predicted that the chance to sign Stanton long term had passed and he just agreed to sign the richest contract in all of sports history. Just saying that the future is hard to predict.

Great job by Hill, and Jennings, and yes, thank you Loria.

Now let's build a team around him!!!

Let's pretend it's 2010 for a second.

Someone says:

"After the 2014 season, the Braves will trade Jason Heyward and the Marlins will lock up Stanton for basically his entire career."

How do you react? Go.
