I don't think the Yankee thing is supposed to bring in fans or anything like that. Loria grew up a Yankee fan and still has an appreciation for them so he leans towards them in his decision making. That's it really. He's a friend and fan of Don Mattingly, it's not very complicated. It's not like this is supposed to increase attendance or anything like that.

Dodgers are paying him so they technically control his rights. They won't stand in the way of him getting another gig but they could technically demand compensation to release him from his contract. They may but it'd be minor if they even do.

 

And I doubt they care about the tampering really but teams always make a bigger deal out of it to set precedents. 

 

 

I just figured once you announce he isn't managing your team anymore and he's free to go elsewhere then there's no need for compensation regardless of them still paying him. That'd be like if Redmond suddenly interviewed for, say, the Padres managerial opening... is that tampering and the Marlins would get compensation from the Padres? I haven't watched Mattingly manage much but I've always had the impression that most people think he's a really shitty manager that makes a lot of bad decisions. I'm guessing that the Marlins are interested entirely because of the Loria/Mattingly/Yankees connection, or they really are just that dumb and clueless.

Double switches can be helpful.  Jennings just had a very weird affinity to use them far too often and in situations that made no sense.

Yes, they can be helpful but it seems there's the possibility that Mattingly overuses or misuses them like Jennings did.
