As a whole, Samson isn't wrong that long term contracts for pitchers are a bit dangerous compared to position players.

But on a team STARVED for starting pitching, they're willing to overspend on offense but won't do so for pitching????

WHAT THE HELL!?!?!???????

I think we can all agree that if the Marlins wanna spend big on a free agent anyone of Price, Greinke, Zimmermann, Cueto, etc would be a smarter investment than Yoenis Cespedes. Damn them.

Bauer, Fister and Cespedes. Welcome to the new era of Donny Ocho baseball. Ozuna, good luck with the Tribe.

Good to see us solidifying our hold on 3rd in the NL East.

To be fair, we had a winning month in September when our rotation was Jose Fernandez and four other guys who just randomly turned up at the ballpark.

True... but maybe if we had Jose Fernandez, two other top of the rotation pitchers, and then just 2 "other guys who just randomly turned up at the ballpark" then maybe we'd have a winning April-August to go with that winning September.

What else do you want, the moon on a stick?

Jeffrey Loria is not the biggest Ozuna fan in the world. Former manager Dan Jennings‘ decision to play and defend Ozuna is reportedly one of the reasons he no longer works for the Marlins. It would stand to reason, then, that the Marlins will make every effort to trade Ozuna this winter. Not saying that is the right decision, but hey, it’s the Marlins.

You can’t predict ball, and you can’t predict Jeffrey Loria.

Cespedes to the Marlins is perfect for many reasons. The team needs a Cuban superstar to boost flagging attendance. Cespedes is the perfect personality for the city of Miami.Don Mattingly needs another superstar. Mattingly says he sees himself managing the Marlins for 10 years, but who really thinks that is a reality?

Crazier things have happened in baseball history than the Marlins potentially signing Yoenis Cespedes. On a scale of 1-to-Loria, a deal between the Marlins and Cespedes would rank about a five.

If Loria starts becoming obsessed with the whole Cespesdes needs to be here because he is Cuban we are doomed.

Not the only reason but obsessed with Cespedes is accurate.

I just wanna know if Loria has limits to how much he wants to spend on the guy. Making an offer is one thing, willing to outbid every other team at any cost is another (scary) thing.

I assume he has a limit but its probably too high to be smart

Maybe Cespedes continues his success and we get lucky....

very unlikely considering his peripherals. I'm sure we'll get 2014ish Cespedes which isn't the worst thing in the world, but Ozuna will probably give that production

He doesn't make our team worse, so it's not the worst thing that could happen. If you look at it another way, if Cespedes = Ozuna then we'll basically be paying this salary to whatever pitcher we get in return for Ozuna. More than likely it's a dumb move, but our team should be better as a result.

The analytics people should quell some of Loria's love for Cespedes and hatred for Ozuna. Let's hope they're enough.

To me it isn't even so much about does Ozuna deserve to go, is Cespedes gonna be good, which Cespedes will we get, is Ozuna better than Cespedes, etc...

To me its just that we have a need at starting pitching and the money that should be used for that will be used to get an overpriced offensive free agent. That's killing me.
