January 4, 201610 yr if you've had a sub 4 era in the last 10 years and aren't officially retired that makes you an automatic #3 by marlins FO standards. BTW I'd put a nickle that says Edwin gets a rotation spot (mainly because he'd probably become a top 5 starter on the team unfortunatley)
January 4, 201610 yr Well, the fans have told us several times to bring back Edwin, so I don't see the problem. -David Samson
January 4, 201610 yr At the end of the day if he tanks they can place him in the BP. They can think he is the next Roger Clemens but even the Marlins arent stupid enough to leave him in the rotation if he sucks. Which he does and he should be placed in the BP upon arrival.

January 4, 201610 yr Teams budget against profiting even when they are losing. Like any business when you see a lot of small changes and nitpicking it's a really bad sign. They are scaling back on the pitching and they have even scaled back on the broadcasting department. (Keep in mind they are "scaling back" when factoring inflation and league wide profits). So it seems to me that if they have no intention of investing in the team this year I will also save my money and not buy the package this year. It won't affect them...but it will do wonders for my piece of mind. They are stuck in Florida with an empty stadium sitting on a pile of money...a metaphor for the entire thing.

While we believe the team is being cheap, let's not forget how costly it is to move the fences. A move like that comes with consequences elsewhere and thus, Edwin Jackson is our big signing so far.

A move like that comes with consequences elsewhere and thus, Edwin Jackson is our big signing so far. Excuse me but I'd legitimately argue that Mathis was a bigger signing than Jackson. That's not even a joke. What Mathis means to this team and the clubhouse is more valuable than whatever turd Edwin Jackson is gonna leave on the mound every five days. I honestly believe that regardless of Mathis' ridiculously bad offensive numbers.

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not but the payroll has not been affected at all due to ballpark work.
January 4, 201610 yr I'm not sure if you're being serious or not but the payroll has not been affected at all due to ballpark work. NO, not serious at all.
January 4, 201610 yr he had solid stats out of the pen last year. yay? Yes but watch them put him as the #2 starter
January 4, 201610 yr Even more than the Mathis one? Yes, because he's a FA. Mathis was already here at least, so I knew there was a pretty strong possibility that he came back.

January 5, 201610 yr @Admin you should just shut the site down for the year or forbid Marlins conversation for the season. You, me, and those on this board spend more emotional energy on this team than anyone who has made it their life's work or career choice. Why waste the time?
January 5, 201610 yr Two thoughts on this: If I recall correctly, before the offseason was hijacked by the Jose nonsense, the plan was to add a starter and a vet to compete with the young kids for a rotation spot. If Jackson is that vet competing with Urena, Nocolino, and Conely, then I'm good with it...so long as they are still planning on spending the money they supposedly have earmarked for pitching (I think $10-14 million has been mentioned) and bringing in a legitimate rotation upgrade(hopefully a Kennedy-type, but more likely a Pfister-type). Secondly, we essentially traded for Benedict for this type of signing, so hopefully he sees something in Jackson that he thinks he can fix and get back on track. I'll give Benedict the benefit of the doubt here until proven otherwise.

January 5, 201610 yr There's so many better things you could be spending your money on Admin. Don't I know it
January 5, 201610 yr Yes but watch them put him as the #2 starter Of course they're going to. They said they were gonna sign some FA Starting pitching and this is them delivering on their promise
January 5, 201610 yr if this was anyone but the marlins i'd actually really like the edwn jackson idea esp w benedict. His velocity was terrific last year (obviously in a bullpen role) and I think it'd be a solid idea the GIVE HIM A LOOK in ST and if that didnt work have him in the pen. the problem is the marlins are going to sign him and make him their #3 SP off the bat
January 5, 201610 yr Admin do you agree that, while Jackson could work as potential depth, at this point the Marlins probably have him locked in as our likely #3 starter?
January 5, 201610 yr Admin do you agree that, while Jackson could work as potential depth, at this point the Marlins probably have him locked in as our likely #3 starter? That's my personal opinion on it. I don't hate it as a relief arm but I am worried its to be a SP and I hate that.
