4/27 marlins @ dodgers

Dodgers: Scott Kazmir will try to snap a string of shaky starts as he takes the mound for the 7:10 p.m. PT matchup with the Marlins. The southpaw has registered a 9.69 ERA in his last three starts and has been dealing with soreness around his left wrist and thumb.

He said he is going to continue to pitch through it but that is probably what is really affecting him. Bour probably gets the start today.

Nicolino needs to be added to the roster before tonight's game. Who is going to go down? Right now, we have an extra bench player. With Mattingly's incoherent bullpen usage, I think we need the extra guy in the bullpen, not on the bench. So who is the odd man out?

Ichiro (definitely not)

Rojas (maybe)

Dietrich (I sure hope not)

Mathis (definitely not)

Johnson (maybe)

So either Rojas or Johnson go. Rojas has been playing a bit of first base and is a better baseball player than Johnson. So RIP Chris Johnson's brief Marlins tenure?

You also have Wittgrenn and Urena who really haven't been used.

I think it will probably be Urena, but then we'd be short an arm in the bullpen. Teams always have to make the 4 or 5 man bench decision, but based on what I am seeing from Mattingly this year and what I noticed the past three years with the Dodgers, he likes to use relievers for multiple innings, leaving them unavailable for a day or two afterwards. I think a full bullpen is better for Don than a full bench.

Well I didn't think he would use Ramos again but he did. Gotta believe he is off limits today and maybe even tomorrow. Hopefully we can crack the game open and not have to dip into that bullpen so much. As good as the bullpen has been it is a little depleted right now.

I wouldn't go with a 4 man bench though especially with pretty much all of our guys out of options anyways.

We have 8 in the pen where we usually have 7.  It will probably be either Urena or Ege that goes down.

We don't have an extra bench player, we have an extra reliever. Breslow, Morris, Ege, Urena are the candidates to go down, for differing reasons but it's most likely between them.

So looking forward, Kazmir is struggling and Nicolino at least is coming in on a clean slate, not having the stench and bad aura of a Cosart start. Tonight a win isn't impossible and even if it's against Maeda we have Jose going tomorrow. Don't wanna get too far ahead because the Dodgers don't exactly suck but suddenly a four game sweep is within reach. I'm gonna say we gotta be "cautiously greedy" and aim for that sweep. It would be a wonderful boost for us. With that said, I'd be jumping for joy at 3 of 4.

A win tonight is important if we want to go for the sweep tomorrow.

That's my Preston Wilson analysis for this game.

Also, I'll be there for the Josaeda pitching matchup tomorrow.
