cant be scoring 2,3,2,1,3,4,2 runs per game. offense needs to be revamped. I'm sorry. Stanton sucks and my frustration for his slumps will sadly outweigh anything he does good. dunn sucks. 2 runs. rivera homer? marlins are incredibly lucky they win games with an absent minded offense. prado needs a day off. start ichiro in right tomorrow. give Johnson a start at 3rd.

Ichiro should start tomorrow. Doesn't he own Bartolo? Our offense is not hitting, but, to be fair to them tonight, it was Syndergaard.

If Mike Dunn is going to throw 90-91, he's not an improvement at all. Like, if that's his velocity now, @Arpenschplat is right about him being one of the worst relievers in the big leagues. He wasn't exactly lights out throwing mid-90s, and he relies on his fastball for swings and misses so if he's bringing it at 91, he's going to suck.

Hope for a better tomorrow.

The question Donnie Baseball is going to have to answer is how many games is he going to allow Dunn to blow before getting the message. I don't see any advantage to bringing Dunn in to face lefties, particularly with his velocity looking as down as it is.

Painful to watch Stanton flailing away at the plate. Only a matter of time I fear before he's looking up at the Mendoza line. Amazing what this team has accomplished without him but the luck will eventually run out. With Stanton doing his dong thing and otherwise making at least productive outs, this team can contend.

Yeah I defended Stanton a bit back about being streaky but this is something he's never dealt with before. It's complete lost confidence at the plate. It's a problem that I'm honestly not sure how to solve. You send him down and you could potentially kill his confidence even more. You keep him up and he's gonna likely continue to struggle.

It's beyond the point of calling this a "slump" for Stanton. He's 9th in the majors in strikeouts but has over 18 at bats less than anybody else ahead of him. His 33 or so percent strikeout ratio from last year has creeped closer to 50 percent this year.

If 2012 Stanton was playing this season, we'd be in 2nd place in the NL East right now. He's incredibly lucky that guys like Dietrich, Prado, Ichiro, Yelich, Realmuto, etc... have stepped up or else he'd be facing far more criticism from the media than he has.

If everything else about this team stays the same (which it obviously won't but bear with me), then we make or miss the playoffs by whether we continue to have this Stanton or if we can get something like 2012 or 2014 Stanton back.

The streakiness has always been a part of Stanton's game. It's worrisome that he's regressed this year to issues that had many of us following him in the minors and early in his career concerned about his future. Something mentally needs to change for Stanton.

He will keep us in the game and throw strikes. If he can give us a quality start we should be right in it

That is exactly the benefit of Nicolino. Hittable stuff but he works so fast that he can get out of innings in 6 or 7 pitches often. There's the obvious downside of big hit innings, but there's also times where he'll get through 7 innings without even throwing 80 pitches. Don't know what kind of start we'll get from him against a good NY lineup.

Yeah it's tough to say what should be done. It seems almost completely mental with him. Late in the game he got himself into a 2-1 count, after they challenged him with 2 fastballs up, and he flails at a slider down and away. It was fairly obvious that he was getting an off speed pitch in that situation and he was obviously looking fastball again. That's not something AAA will help with, because as soon as he comes back up, he will continue to get pitched the same way. It's pretty obvious he doesn't have much confidence in himself as you can see his swing change through the at bat. Early in the count he's basically taking until he gets a strike. Then when they get ahead, they throw a breaking ball and he's looking fastball and comes out of his shoes. Then it's 0-2,1-2 and the swing gets ugly. It's to the point where if it's one of those counts, you can feel comfortable that with almost any pitch, you can get him out. Slider away, curveball down, fastball up, change up down. He has got to improve his approach at the plate ala Ozuna and that can either happen tomorrow, or August.

Dunn is laughable, Hall doesn't belong here, offense seems so good at times yet can't bring anyone in. Stanton I have no words for. Now it's more than a slump. I won't say he sucks but he's currently sucking, if that makes any sense. Right now he just does nothing and it's embarrassing. Send him down? Nope. A minor league stint does nothing for him but fuck with his confidence. He needs some help but he won't get it in the minors.

cardinals lost, pirates lost, nationals lost, dodgers losing. let's all forget about today and get them tomorrow. moreover on Stanton, you want to make him pissed? the answer is in front of us. Donnie benches him mid-game or for 2 games, and that WILL light a fire.

fans are oblivious and soon will Collins and name Stanton to the all star team anyway because of the derby.

I don't think making Stanton pissed is the solution. He's not doing this on purpose. He needs coaching, not a spanking.
