Now we just need the Rangers to trade for Locke or Neise Why would the Pirates trade from their rotation right now being in the thick of the playoff race? Marlins would have to give up Naylor to get Odorizzi or Hill.

July 15, 201610 yr I think the one guy we could get who is more than a half year rental, who is a righty (which we prefer), who we have the assets to acquire and who easily slots into our rotation no questions asked is Ervin Santana. The question with him comes down to Loria and whether he is willing to take on the salary for two years. Sadly, his salary looks pretty reasonable considering how thin the SP market will be next year. I would be thrilled to add him to our rotation. The other guy is Hellickson, but he's a rental (could give him a qualifying offer) and the Phillies don't seem overly motivated. These other guys - sonny gray, teheran, moore, odorizzi, etc you can forget about. Even Rich Hill will require more assets than we have or would give up for a rental.
