July 15, 201610 yr De La Rosa is terrible. Only guy I would give the Rockies for him is Loria Yeah. He is actually quite a bit worse than Koehler, and I'm not even sure he'd be a step up from Nicolino. At least Nicolino is young and stuff.
July 15, 201610 yr So trade Garrett for an upcoming, 35-year-old free agent with a 5.74 ERA and 5.39 FIP? De La Rosa isn't going to be as costly as some around here think. That's not the point. Garrett is our best trade piece now, u get what u can for him. We need pitching. If you need something and don't have the money for it but suddenly found a bunch of money you spend it right away on what you need. We have a shit farm with no assets and now we got an asset, use it. no point in waiting. He's not gonna be anymore valuable than he is now. Isn't that how sports works?

We don't need a scrub who is arguably worse than all of the pitchers we currently have on our staff. Unless you actually think Jorge De La Rosa is good, which is another story entirely.
July 15, 201610 yr I'm pretty sure we are not even allowed to trade Garrett until after the World Series. Not even as a player to be named later. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app

Unless you actually think Jorge De La Rosa is good, which is another story entirely. I don't mind de la Rosa at all, he's been around for years he'd be an upgrade over both Koehler and Nicolino at the least but it doesn't have to be de la Rosa. Anyone. I'm just saying that now with Garrett signed now we have a big trade piece and we have to use it before the deadline if we want anything good.

I agree with the fact that Garrett is a potential trade piece for the future. I don't agree with De La Rosa being an upgrade over Koehler. Koehler is better than De La Rosa. The only reason why De La Rosa has a spot on a major-league roster is because he is a lefty. The dude is terrible.

July 15, 201610 yr Let's go get Ervin Santana. We can live with Jose-Conley-Santana-Chen-Koehler especially given our elite bullpen, excellent team defense and well above average offense. Plus, in a very thin SP market, we will be happy to have Santana for the next two years - locking up 4/5 of our rotation. We can send a package of Ellington, Stone Garrett, Kendry Flores and another player, maybe Urena or Nicolino. Could be enough. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app

Keep that bullpen strong, and eat some salary.
July 15, 201610 yr YOU DON'T TRADE YOUR BEST PROSPECT FOR 30 INNINGS OF A RELIEVER WHEN YOUR BULLPEN IS ONE OF YOUR STRENGTHS AND YOU HAVE TWO HOLES IS YOUR ROTATION
July 15, 201610 yr Too much relevance being placed on Paddack being OUR best prospect versus his actual value. Too little emphasis on getting an all-star closer next year, dirt cheap. As the SP market is starting to play out, we weren't adding two quality starters. Let's add one hopefully and use our pen like the Royals have done to shorten games for lesser quality starters. July 15, 201610 yr http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/midseason-top-100-prospects/#S2hZ3UW2Mdv00o9F.97 100. Josh Naylor - 1B - Marlins that's sad
July 15, 201610 yr This. Yes it kinda sucked to lose paddack but he wasn't getting us a starter so people need to stop sweating the Rodney trade. Paddack wasn't going to get us a starter yet Naylor and friends will? Paddack has much more value than Naylor, not even close. A package of prospects headed by Paddack could have gotten us a significant piece.
July 15, 201610 yr Paddack did get us a significant piece. We all would prefer a starter, but an elite relieve for a year and a half at very friendly salary is a significant piece. And his low salary will allow us to add another significant piece this year and next. We were never getting a great starter with Paddack and change. If we can add a good starter (Santana or Hellickson) plus Rodney for Paddack and change, that's good work. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
July 15, 201610 yr hey guys let's go get a legit #2 or #3 by giving up a handful of garbage players - 5 for 1! any team looking to trade a starter would be happy to take 5 players back regardless if they have talent or not. this board deems it so!

There isn't a legitimate #2 on the market so that synopsis isn't correct. The only true #3 with a track record would be Ervin Santana and because you and others can't seem to understand this I'll explain it again. Santana has a big salary, and the twins have almost zero use for him now, or in the next year or two. Therefore, it is very plausible a return of Naylor, Flores/Nico plus salary relief would get the job done in terms of value. Could another team sweep in and give up ace type prospects for a #3? Absolutely, but it would be a irrational move and its simply unfair to just say "we don't have enough" to compete with a team that is willing to make a bad move. As far as Rich Hill is concerned, anyone that gives up any impact prospect for him is irrationally bold. Also not a true #2, and realistically probably a fringe 3 from here on out. Lack of track record as well as being a pure rental is not something I would be willing to give up Naylor for.

July 15, 201610 yr I haven't said anything about Naylor. Fair, but if Paddack wouldn't get us a starter then who would in your opinion?
