For what it's worth, I think I'd trade Hech for any of those Rays SP's, not just Archer.

Have you seen Odorizzi or Moore pitch this year? Not attacking your opinion, just wondering

Have you seen Hechavarria play this year?

Only every game. Way to answer the question

It's a relevant question since Hech has had a pretty bad year.

As for the Rays pitchers, Moore has actually only had one bad month this year (May).

We haven't seen it with Chen, but normally, going from the AL East to the NL can help a pitcher.

The bottom line is we need a SP. Are Odorizzi/Moore not better than what we have? And how much of a drop off is it from Hech to Rojas? I think Rojas can provide similar #'s to Hech. Been saying it for a long time.

I'm with Erick although maybe we'd be selling low on Hech? Or maybe not? In a twisted way maybe he's value is high. He's had a down year but coming off what he did in 2015 compared to 2012-14 maybe it'll trick teams into thinking he'll revert back to whatever 2015 was.

Rojas could put up similar numbers to Hech offensively, but not defensively. Odorizzi is essentially a TK clone as far as production. He hasn't been very good at all. I've watched both Moore and Odorizzi quite a bit this year being from around Tampa the area, and both have been relatively lucky. Moore has given up 19 bombs this year. 19. We would be essentially cloning what we already have and sticking it in the back end of the rotation for better or worse. My main issue would be that neither would impact a playoff series as I don't believe they would be in our top 3, and limit our bench. Not to mention it wouldn't be a straight up trade. We would likely still have to give up 1 or 2 of Naylor/Garrett/Flores. That's not worth it to me.

I disagree. I think they are very similar players defensively. Rojas may start out slow if placed at SS full time, but given playing time, he might actually be a better defender than Hech.

That's fair. I don't agree, but it's fair.

Either way, even if there is a drop off defensively from Hech to Rojas, it won't be a major one. The difference between Hech and Rojas defensively will be much smaller than the difference between Nicolino/Clemens/Urena/Billy the Marlin and whomever we are able to acquire in a potential Hech deal.

Hech is very good defensively, but so is Rojas.

And Odorizzi's ERA might make him look like Koehler clone, but his upside is much higher. Really not a fair comparison.

I have my doubts with Odorizzi/Moore too, but we're not getting a better pitcher.

He does have more upside, would out of the 3, who would you pick to start a playoff series? Conley/Chen/Odororizzi? I think it's the first 2 without a doubt. The Marlins need to fill that Chen start if they are going to give up their starting SS

Conley probably has an innings limit. Ideally, I don't think the team would want him starting in the playoffs.

If there is no one to be had anytime soon do we change a few roles?

Wittgren/Bearclaw (7th inning - or 6th if SP sucks), Rodney 8th, AJ 9th

TK - Long relief or when game has gone to complete shit anyway

Phelps - back into rotation?

I think it would take a while to stretch his arm out again.

I think once September hits and the rosters expand, we will see a few "bullpen starts" where McGowan/Urena starts and we just go from there

Yeah maybe a 3-4 inning start a time or two but that's about all we could expect

Not mad about tonight's loss because no one was beating wainwright even if Koehler didn't suck.... But it got me thinking, and feeling kinda down, because we're hunting for a SP but man it's almost like we need 3 or even 4 of them. Chen has been a bust, Koehler has finally run out of those occasional good games he would pull out of his ass, there's is a gaping hole of total shit in the five spot, and Conley is fine but you have to question if he'll even be allowed to pitch in late September and if he'll be any good if he does. I guess Chens spot is as guaranteed as any of them but the way the rotation looks it feels like getting one SP won't be enough unless that one guy is an absolute ace and of course we know we can't afford one of those. So shit. Fuck.
