July 19, 201610 yr I'd take ARod this year if he retires after this season so we don't have to pay him 25 million bucks. Make him play 1B and cut the pudwhacks we have currently playing there in Bour's place. Pineda, Sabathia and ARod for (I have no idea) C - JT/Mathis 1B - Bour/ARod 2B - Gordon/Dietrich SS - Hech/Rojas 3B - Prado/Dietrich LF - Yelich/Dietrich CF - Ozuna/Ichiro RF - Stanton/Ichiro SP - Fernandez SP - Conley (L) SP - Pineda SP - Sabathia (L) SP - Chen (L) CL - Ramos SU - Rodney MR - Barraclough MR - Phelps MR - Wittgren MR - Dunn (L) LR - Koehler Yes please (Sorry, I need a break from work and typing a hypothetical rosters relaxes me)
July 19, 201610 yr Glad to see we're discussing getting two starters instead of just one. More and more I think one won't be enough.
July 19, 201610 yr Can you imagine all the HILARIOUS jokes idiots would make about Bonds, ARod, and Dee all on the same team?

July 19, 201610 yr And the two we get might not even be good enough. We'll see though. Fun season (finally). Touche.
July 19, 201610 yr Look at how stocked our minor league system was just a few years ago compared to now. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/miami-marlins-top-15-prospects-2012-13/ Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app

July 19, 201610 yr Since we have become good friends with the Padres, I definitely wouldn't rule out the Marlins pursuing Cashner. Would be nice for 1 of the 2 pitchers potentially being acquired having control beyond this year.
July 19, 201610 yr Dan O Dowd trade idea: Marlins acquire: Hellickson Phils acquire: Nicolino. Phillies that DUMB !?

The fish just need to hit on a few picks over the span of 2-3 seasons and viola, you have a nice farm system again. The biggest issue was Loria and co. trading away a valuable pick for guys like Morris, etc. If they can resist that urge that'll hasten the process. Again, i'm really not in favor of moving any more prospects this year for a starter unless it's Hech (since Rojas can be plugged in there) and I don't see Hech fetching very much with his bat. This team will still be together next season and I would like to keep it together and let them progress even more. Realistically, they'd need two starters and Chen to return to form in order to be a serious playoff threat this year. Their rotation is that bad. It's really a shame that both Chen and Cosart turned out to be so shitty this year because if those two had even pitched like a 3 and 4 respectively, the fish would be right there with the Nats right now duking it out for first.

July 20, 201610 yr They don't need 2 starting pitchers, but they need a true #2. Someone that can give you a 3.5 ERA and go deep into ball games. That was my main issue with the Chen signing. Jose, #2, Conley, Chen, TK/Nico/Urena/Cosart is more than fine with this bullpen and offense when healthy.
July 20, 201610 yr I hope the FO also focuses on a utility guy, CJ is not cutting it. Danny Valencia would be a great addition and a homecoming for him.

July 20, 201610 yr Somebody said Danny was a clubhouse cancer. Perfect, even cheaper of a trade. Hopefully coming home will help him.

Besides, the Marlins have zero assets they could use this year to acquire a #2 so your point would be moot anyway - unless by #2 you mean a piece of shit which would just be redundant.

First of all, Jose is an absolute ace anyway you want to put it. Home, away, space, it doesn't matter. How you could think Conley is any worse than a 3 is beyond me. He has a 3.68 era and anyone that has watched him this year knows it's not based upon luck, or favorable match ups. Edit: sorry a 3.61 era after shutting down the cardinals
July 20, 201610 yr As bad as Chen is, he is not a "#5 on a good day". C'mon, dude. Your standard was just sky high.
July 20, 201610 yr The marlins bullpen is so nasty they don't need a #2, they just need innings eaters so we aren't toting them out there all the time. Get to the playoffs and anything can happen. this offense and that bullpen... you never know.
July 20, 201610 yr Your standard was just sky high. It's setting your standards "sky high" to say that a guy who was a No. 2 or 3 caliber starter in Baltimore is better than a No. 5 on a good day?
July 20, 201610 yr Your standard was just sky high. I have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe you had no idea what I was talking about. I was saying that Chen, as bad as he's been, is better than a "#5 on a good day".
