Farm is playing on the team right now in one way or another, for the most part. I'd blame Loria for not letting Hill take on a contract to acquire a sp if nothing happens.

So many people don't seem to understand this concept.

I disagree. Doing that in 2003 would have meant we didn't end up winning the title. Gotta go for it when you have the chance.

In 2003 we made ONE significant trade, Urbina.  Ironically, the same has been done with Rodney this year.

2003 is a perfect example, not to panic, not to over trade. They weren't even the best team with SF, the Cubs, and Yanks being debatably better.  It was just our year.

Im not saying that we shouldn't improve. But, I wouldn't do it with the mentality of what ever it takes.  Because like 2003 anthing can happen.

this team seems is deeper with each passing game played. But who really knows.

Our SP was actually better in 2003.

Jose > Beckett is the only difference but we also had Pavano, Penny, Burnett and a serviceable Redman.

Right now we literally have Jose and Conley and a shell of his former self also known as Chen.

TK sucks and we still don't have a #5.

Thank you for the start yesterday Urena but I don't want you starting again this year.

In 2003 down the stretch we also traded for Conine, called up D-Train and Miggy, and got Beckett back from injury. Plus Urbina. This present team has Dee coming back and that's it (I don't count Bour). Mind you, our competition will be adding impact players through trade and internally. If next year we have a major injury, our season could be over. Let's go for it now! At the very least add a Helickson or preferably Santana, plus another utility-type player.

Depending on how serious Bour injury really is since he is a dealing with a high ankle sprain, they may pursue another bat there that can actually hit LHP.

Agreed. We have utilized our farm system and have a ton of big league talent due to that. It's not like we haven't developed guys. We are just at a stage where we have called up a lot of our top prospects over the last few years.

I seriously doubt it. We don't have a lot of bullets to bring to the trade table and we need a SP more than anything. I think it's starter or bust.

We also added Chad Fox down the stretch, who was arguably just as valuable as Urbina. We don't make the playoffs if we don't add Fox and Urbina. Bullpen was god awful without them and greatly improved by adding two guys (who weren't exactly lights out).

My point.. go for it. Just get there and teams with a god awful bullpen like '03 (or suspect SP like now) can win a WS, even if the additions don't seem like something that put you over the top.

I said it before that I think this team is just as talented, if not more talented, than '03.

And the bottom line is that they HAVE TO go for it at this point. I don't think they have another choice.

I understand why we as fans compare this team to 03 but it doesn't matter if we're better or worse than that team. It's like we have to prepare for Barry Bonds, Kerry Wood, and Roger Clemens in the playoffs. We're not playing in 2003 anymore. We have a legitimate playoff opportunity, that's all that needs to be said to know we have to go for it.

Dontrelle Willis was on that staff to.

We need to add another #2 in the rotation.  I agree. Problem is, right now, other than Archar no one really comes to mind.  Adding another average filler is not going to put us over the hump.

I just want value for value.  I feel like some posters don't consider Naylor as a future elite top prospect that he will be.
