As for "if they fail to make the playoffs," I could be wrong but 2017 looks pretty good for this team if they manage to stay healthy. Everybody is coming back.

What else were they supposed to do last winter? The SP market wasn't very good. We signed one of the best ones in Chen, and he's actually been a disappointment.

There were plenty of arms out there last winter.

Marlins should have signed at least one other starter, if they didnt realize their starting pitching was that thin, then Mike Hill is dumber than I thought.

Which arms were available? There's also the thought that sometimes players choose to sign somewhere else. For example, we were interested in Rodney in the offseason too, but he chose SD because he had a better chance to close there. Just because the team is interested doesn't mean they want to sign here. They're free agents and can choose where they want to go. + the SP market really did suck. Which one of those SP deals from last offseason has worked out?

Does that mean he's signed through 2017? I can't keep track of the definition of rental here anymore.

Rental for two month is rental, rental for two years is rental.

The SP market last winter was basically David Price and everybody else. And even David Price has been a disappointment.

Edit: And Grienke who also hasn't lived up to the contract.

That's not what a rental is when talking about baseball contracts. You're basically saying that every contract is a rental if you're looking at it that way.

No,abviously 13 years contract wasn't a rental.

A 2 year contract isn't considered a rental either.

Interesting. Even if it's not the Yankees we should probably start getting ready to take on some big contract because it's probably our best way to get something in return and because Loria is probably more willing to swallow that bullet this year than ever before.

Wait, seriously?

No, I don't think so. Even though I wouldn't mind that either.

As a bench player, yeah.

Can we just have Bonds be a player/manager instead.
