8/5 postgame

Victory from the jaws of defeat from the jaws of victory.

Seemed like a pretty damn big win.  Never know if another collapse like that might linger.  Now let's see if they get Rodney out of the 8th.  (Matts didn't tip his hand in the postgame, talked like he knows Rodney will shake it off)

I really like Jeff Nelson in the postgame commentary and he was right on the money today.  He's not buying into the "Rodney struggling because he's not the closer" nonsense.  Bottom line Padres weren't going anywhere, you were brought in to help this time, you pitch the 8th same way as the 9th.  Not locating fastball so they can wait on his change which he rarely throws for strikes anyway, and then tee off on fastballs right down the middle.  He agrees it should be Wittgren-Bear-AJ.  And yeah you'd love to give Rodney some low-impact innings somewhere but when the hell do the Marlins ever blow anyone out?

Huge 9th inning from the bats, was great to see.  Particularly when it's Johnson & Hech doing it.  About all we can do is single you to death but I'll take it.

Haha Jeff Nelson just said that Phelps threw "a lot of offspeed early in the cunt."

Such a good test of character coming back in the 9th. Rodney blowing it in the 8th after Wednesday's debacle could have really set the team back.

So glad we traded a top prospect for a volatile bullpen arm ?

Great game though. Losing that way again would've hurt.

I'm rooting for Rodney to turn things around. Some of ya'll gonna look real reactionary if he does that.

Great win. That's a nice bounce back right there.

Good sir, I have never made a reactionary statement in my MB posting life!

I'm kinda with you but when your fighting for your playoff life, you really can't afford to put horribly struggling relievers in tight innings when they are trying to figure things out.

How about Phelps... looked pretty good on a 70 pitch count. I could stand another start from him.

They really need Rodney to be a positive contributor esp with Phelps starting and Capps sold for a couple million dollars. Hr can't be put in a close game anymore tho

Is it possible that Rodney's bad pitching was resulted from the attitude issue.

Altitude or attitude?

Rodney's bad pitching is a result of him being an average to below average RP his entire career and regression doing its thing

FWIW I also don't expect Rodney to be this bad for long.

not sure he can be any worse. He's been so below replacement level for the marlins. Regardless, he has no business in close games at all right now

Dat BABIP, though.
