I was a YUGE fan of Dobbers. He was a lefty and brought intangibles. haha Wes Helms was the worst though.

Ultimately it is. It's a business after all. I don't know if you live in South Florida currently but every Cuban and Cuban American is lighting a candle to their favorite saint in the hopes that chapman signs with the Marlins.

I am immediately skeptical of spending a lot of money on Cuban players just to appease the Cuban community. It's a nice idea in theory, but they don't have a good track record at filling the stadium. They are much more apathetic towards the Marlins than I would expect them to be.

So they are going to suddenly realize that there's a baseball team down the street that they haven't supported for 24 years? Makes sense.

Jokes aside, the Cuban players would be amazing whenever we're actually a consistent playoff team. Like Livan Hernandez in 97 was for the Cuban community. But that was because he was World Series MVP and all that stuff. If we had ever gotten lucky enough to have had Jose Fernandez pitching in Game 7 of the World Series and stuff like that then yes the Cuban community would rally behind him like crazy.

While I am impressed with how the Cuban community mourned for Jose, I don't think they did enough to support him or the team when he was still alive and playing. 

 

Jose Days saw a marginal spike in attendance and nothing more.

If you check the season schedule though you can see which days they don't have games and at least those days you know for sure won't be days that he pitches. Hope that helps.
