December 11, 20178 yr Author Main reason for me is that he and his group are too poor to be owning this franchise. It seems like a vanity thing and if Jeter weren't a golden boy, Mas would have possibly gotten the team. Mas would’ve traded Stanton too.
December 11, 20178 yr Cause then it'll spun as him passing the buck even if it is true. exactly. No matter what he does he will be criticized because of the necessity of the situation to rebuild and especially given the fire sale history of the team. This is pretty clearly the right thing to do, it's just a terrible situation for the new ownership to inherit because of the history of the team and the vitriol of the casual fan base down here who just doesnt fully understand the situation.
December 11, 20178 yr Also, this is way old news already but I always thought the think the thing about Jeter not calling Stanton was overblown... if Mike Hill called Stanton and told him Jeter's plan and asked him what teams he preferred and kept him abreast of all the trade stuff then that's enough for me. Jeter is the owner. Mike Hill is the President of Baseball Operations. Yes maybe it would have been courtesy for Jeter to call Stanton himself but if he didn't and at least Hill spoke to Stanton then that's good enough for me. Actually, Stanton and the Herald both said that there was a scheduled meeting after the World Series so they probably did meet and talk then. The line about them never meeting came from the GM Meetings where Jeter said he hadn't talked to Stanton about the rumors during that week... that doesn't mean they never ever spoke before or after that week.
December 11, 20178 yr I'd love to know why South Florida acts like they care so much when there's a fire sale if they are completely indifferent to the team every other time in between. It's been 5 years since the last thing that could even be considered a fire sale and the fans haven't supported the team since then right? So why NOW do they suddenly throw up their arms in outrage? It's ridiculous.
December 11, 20178 yr Author That's not the issue here. Trading Stanton alone isn't going to solve the deeply rooted financial problems that franchise has. Jeter/Sherman are too poor to own this team. Perhaps. Nobody talks about Bruce Sherman though.
December 11, 20178 yr Perhaps. Nobody talks about Bruce Sherman though. Jeter is the face of the new ownership group. Also, Sherman probably doesn't get the team without Jeter. FUCK JETER
December 11, 20178 yr Author If we’re comparing, Sherman is the new Loria. Jeter might be the “face,” but Sherman is the guy with the money (or lack of money).
December 11, 20178 yr Author I think this ownership group needs some more time to see what happens. I understand penguino’s viewpoint, but, so far, most fans are criticizing trades that were probably inevitable regardless of the ownership group.
December 11, 20178 yr Derek Jeter has willingly attached himself to the longtime laughing stock of MLB When the first thing you do as a part of the laughing stock of baseball is give the ok for a FIRE SALE (even if it’s justifiable) you’re going to get A LOT of shit for it. It’s really not hard to comprehend.
December 11, 20178 yr he just had a great press conference. Everything he said was essentially spot on and encouraging for people wanting to see this team tear it down and rebuild the right way.

December 11, 20178 yr #FuckJeter how dare he tear down a team losing millions with no attendance, no tv ratings, no pitching, no farm system, and no winning season since 2009. It was so obvious how beloved this team was by the 3000 fans that showed up in the midst of that winning streak to get back to .500 this past year when I went to a game on a saturday night vs the padres and there was no one there. How could he not see the love this community has for this core of players????
December 11, 20178 yr He shouldn't be here that's why. If he wasn't Derek Jeter we'd have different owners.

I could see how in a few years the sky will be pink. Should have been pink years ago. Others are too misinformed to see a pink sky in the future. Had to be done! #FuckJeter
December 11, 20178 yr Author He shouldn't be here that's why. If he wasn't Derek Jeter we'd have different owners. Different owners who would be doing the same thing. And if that's your reason for hating him, maybe you should hate MLB instead.

It's what Jeter wanted all along. #fuckJeter Stuff that has actually happened...
December 11, 20178 yr “He has a great press conference” in the same press conference he referred to Michael Hill on why they didn’t send more $$$ to get better prospects for Stanton Cause that was Hill’s call, right?
December 11, 20178 yr 1. Why bother to work those deals out without Stanton agreeing to go to those cities first? 2. I'm not in the "Jeter is a spy" camp. I'm in the "Jeter has no business owning this team" camp.
December 11, 20178 yr Author “He has a great press conference” in the same press conference he referred to Michael Hill on why they didn’t send more $$$ to get better prospects for Stanton Cause that was Hill’s call, right? In terms of title, yes.
December 11, 20178 yr What has he done that’s so wrong? Fire marlins legends with a soon to be fired president, treat us like morons by not acknowledging the obvious, firing a scout who cancer, and now blaming stanton for being traded away.
