Why has Derek Jeter received so much hate?

Of course they knew that.  They weren't on the list he gave them.  Pretending to have leverage doesn't give you leverage. Do you think the Yankees or Cashman are stupid?  Fish20 can see that STL and SF were a mere ploy to gain leverage but the Yankees somehow can't? LoL

please tell me how having more potential teams to at least try and negotiate with and see if Stanton would accept a trade to instead of staying on a rebuilding thing is a negative?

Dodgers were offering more for Stanton. Why did they not take the better offer? Cause it would of costed them money. Pure stupidity. It costs money to win ball games. You cant afford this team than sell it!!!

Dodgers were asking for like 60 million really. And because the Dodgers have a couple of cant miss prospects that could of been a future super star. It wasn't a smart baseball trade. It was just like you said ALL financial.

The whole reason they were trading Stanton is financially based due to his contract being too large for a team without current revenue. If they are going to eat 100 million or whatever LA wanted, why bother even trading Stanton?

also, all indications are that the dodgers were offering essentially nothing of value for stanton on top of us taking back contracts that were not gonna be as easy to move as Starlin Castro.

Reports were saying the Dodgers had offered us a package that included anybody from 2-20 of their prospects list.

any report ive seen has said anything but this.  proof?

Fish20, I'd have to dig man, It was reported on Twitter, and of several sports pages. I will go fetch it for you.

im not questioning you if you did read that, just saying that everything ive read has said the opposite and that the dodgers never really offered anything of substance.

What contracts are you referring to? They are taking a loss no matter what right now. I agree this ownership financially is not in a good position right now.

I'm talking about Prado, Volquez, Chen, Ziegler, Tazawa, Ichiro, etc.

Largely untradeable contracts. But, an organization that took a full season of losses and craftily shed these contracts would've been the more responsible ownership group that accurately understood the fan climate in Florida.

Bottom line is this franchise isn't actually worth buying in the first place. Not from a huge profit perspective. From the ownership perspective it's a good place to put your money because it's an MLB franchise and the value only goes  up. But it's an awful franchise to try to make profitable. Because, in order to do that, big risks must be taken.

Bottom line... a firesale was the worst thing a new owner could've done. It was the most sensible thing from a neutral financial perspective, but that doesn't mean it was correct.

The fans are the one with money. The fans behind the TV, and the fans in the ballpark. This team needed a very rich owner to prop it up and repair it, not dismantle it. The fans aren't coming back. Not for a long time. It won't be profitable in the foreseeable future.

My guess would be the fiasco in handling the firing of beloved front office personnel, then Rich being let go. Add in trading fan favorite Dee Gordon while also factoring in the whole mishandling of the Stanton trade, from not meeting with him then giving him the ultimatum of accept a trade or else everyone else goes. This blew up in his face as evidenced by the low return for Stanton. Finally not having the balls to face up to his decisions by attending the winter meetings.

All that said the organization is weak on talent, hasn't had a winning record in forever and still draws attendance for shit, so I know changes need to be made, but with no experience in any of these matters he's not making himself look good.

Because it was a farce.  Stanton wasn't waiving his no trade clause for those teams. There was no trying to see.  That's my whole point.  It was done in bad faith.  Those teams were pawns and the narrative was to paint G as the bad guy here.  Plain and simple.

Why are we still upset about this. Stanton is no longer here. We dumped his salary because we couldn't afford to pay him at all. We have a team that is 400 million dollars in debt. We have a guy who clearly knows something about prospects considering he was a major part in building the Yankees farm syster (Denbo). We have a lot to be happy about. We just dumped a lot of salary. We need to think about the team as shooting to be competitive by 2020 when they sign a new tv deal. A deal worth something. While we wait we need to build a farm, and we need the organization to put itself into a position to make money. To win in baseball you need to spend right around the mean salary for MLB

lol, not plain and simple.  not even accurate.

at least one positive came out of this trade.

Holy shit I'm reading Mike Hill's press conference and someone actually asked him about the Jeter collusion stupidity, they asked if Hill and Jeter thought about how it would look to trade Stanton to Jeter's former team...

Idiots...

Who gives a shit that it happened to be to the Yankees? Why would Hill and Jeter entertain that crap? As if they would even hesitate to make the trade just because it was the Yankees. Wow.

valid opinion.  leave if you want.  but this team has been under .500 every year since 2009 and had no viable path to contention.  I for one am glad to see an ownership group look realistically at this roster and organization for the first time in decades, even if it means watching a terrible team for a few years and even if the rebuild ultimately doesnt turn out like the Astros or Cubs.

i dont know why im even getting into this with you, but this team wasnt winning regardless.  They are doing the right thing by rebuilding and hopefully building it up the right way in a way that will allow them to be a playoff contender annually.

I don't know. It seems like some sources were hinting at that. And then there's Frank Forte, who has a producer role now, basically saying that Waltz was beloved by FS Florida. He seemed perplexed by not renewing the contract and insinuated that the team does have a say in it even though FS Florida took the blame.

I think they have a say in it 100%, but i have a hard time thinking that Jeter would care at all about who is broadcasting the games at all.  My opinion on what happened was FS Florida found out that we would be tearing down the team and that Rich Waltz having been here for like 13 years has a pretty hefty salary and the network decided a replacement who is paid significantly less than Waltz would be a better idea because no one will be watching the games the next few years anyways.  Who knows what the reasoning truly is, but in what world would jeter care who the broadcaster was if he isnt paying him?

look you think jeter going do reluid you need hope he do if not we going be same as old owner

so the potential positive is we become a consistent contender and the potential negative is that we are mediocre as we have been for the past 10 years?  Ill take the rebuild.
