Anyone see the Palm Beach Post article that says even Loria started out better with the Marlins than Jeter has? Saying how he added in 02 and 03 to form a world series champ. Funny how opinions can leave out facts and paint whatever picture they want. Clearly the the 02-03 Marlins were already at further along stages in their rebuild which started in 98, they also had a strong farm system from which to trade from to get Willis Pierre Urbina and Conine, they also already had pitching in place.

 

Comparing the 2 isn't exactly fair. Jeter doesn't have a farm system, pitching, nor a team already advanced in a rebuild. 

 

This would be like if Jeter's current rebuild plan works and then a new owner comes in right before our next world series and then gets all the credit.

I don't get that trade. What did the Braves get out of that?  They only thing that makes sense is that all of the contracts they acquired expire after 18 while Kemp's contract  runs through 19.  Maybe the Braves are gearing up to make a run at Machado or Harper next off season?

That's the exact point of the trade.  Pay more this year for money off the books when they plan to be better.  Plus mccarthy and Kazmir will take rotation spots for a few months until their plethora of pitchers start to come to the big leagues.

Let's not pretend the casual fan is aware of who was in charge in 1997. Let's not pretend the causal fan even gives a flying fuck who owned the team in 1997 - it doesn't matter.
