Why has Derek Jeter received so much hate?

Top 100 lists arent the best measure of prospect return to begin with, but Alcantara, Guzman, Harrison, Brinson, and Diaz have all been in or just off top 100 lists.

So you mean NOT in the Top 100?

We can debate the return all weekend.

I’m underwhelmed with the return.  I think there are 12 people on the planet that are overwhelmed with the return on the best outfield in baseball and Dee Gordon .

because it isnt as black and white as saying "the returns for the production for player x and y."  there are extenuating circumstances that determine player returns, such as the biggest contract in major league history that run through a player with health history's age 40 season.

the return for dee gordon was actually fairly good given his contract and production given the modern age of baseball.

Putting this into historical perspective:

The Marlins‘ fire sale is the largest ever, The Ringer’s Ben Lindberghwrites, as only one team in baseball history has traded more WAR in a single offseason than Miami has this winter.  That team (the 1899 Louisville Colonels) technically shouldn’t count given the unusual circumstances — Colonels owner Barney Dreyfuss bought a share of the Pirates and then sold much of Louisville’s top talent to Pittsburgh.  Lindbergh’s piece chronicles the top 20 biggest talent purges from one season to the next, with some other recent teams (the 2014 Braves, 2014 A’s, and 2012 Marlins) also appearing on the list.

That still has nothing to do with what i was saying.  WAR doesnt take into account contract status, length, and time until free agency.  And that stuff plays a major impact in trade discussions.

I don't mind the returns so far. People were being unrealistic if they expected much better returns.

I think they should keep Realmuto though. From the looks of it, the Nats aren't willing to give up Robles or Soto, and there aren't many great fits out there.

I understand that.  I was just putting it out there.  I'm not even into WAR but since so many (especially the younger fans) have adopted it as their main point of reference for players I thought it would be interesting to share.  What it boils down to is pretty much what Penguin has been saying, we should have been able to get more, especially a stud pitching prospect in return considering the amount of talent we traded away.  Your point of the contracts is fair but I really think it only really applies to Stanton.  I still think we should have gotten more for Ozuna.  Yelich trade I'm good with.

That's fair.  I think the Ozuna trade will ultimately come down to how good Alcantara and Flaherty eventually are.  It still really hasnt come out whether Flaherty wasnt available or we just like alcantara's stuff more despite the higher risk, but id be interested to know how that decision came about.  But ultimately there doesnt appear to be huge discrepancies in the scouting world in the view of Alcantara and Flaherty as prospects.  they are obviously different types of prospects but they are not separated significantly.  And i like the other 3 (really 2) prospects they got in the trade as i think they got a back end of the rotation guy and an elite defender who at the very least could become a Jarrod Dyson type OF 2 WAR a year guy so im cool with that trade.  Ultimately we'll just have to wait and see.

Stanton trade is impossible to evaluate just because of the money aspect as well as the NTC biting us in the ass and how much that contract could have crippled the future of this franchise if he got hurt like he did in every other year of his career essentially.

The problem is we're now in the middle of the pack in terms of farm system, but we have the worst team in at least the NL if not the majors. Before the year's out, the OF will be Brinson/Sierra/Lee. Alcantara, Peters and Neidert will be in the rotation along with Urena and somebody else, either Straily, if he's still here, or another prospect. Isan Diaz might be brought up, as Castro won't be here past the deadline. So yeah, I'm guessing the everyday lineup in September will look something like

Sierra CF

Realmuto C

Brinson LF

Bour 1B

Anderson 3B

Lee RF

Riddle SS

Diaz 2B

And at that point we'll still have a pretty bad team, but with a bad farm system, too. Having one of the first few picks in the draft will help the farm system, but the player most likely won't be ready until Summer 2020 at the earliest.

Jeter said on ESPN today during the game (not verbatim):

For some reason or another the roof at Marlins Park was not open a lot in the past.

Because it’s fucking HOT AS BALLS or raining for 70 out of the 81 home games and no fan wants to deal with that nonsense?

Also once we get into the Summer there's a chance literally every day of a shower or three. A couple of years ago there was a freak shower on Opening Day which caused a short rain delay. Has nobody ever explained this to him before?

Samson has also said the same thing in the beginning of the year pretty much every year.  It's great in theory, just hot as balls in practice.

Yeah but Loria and Samson were a different regime. Can't compare the two. AWFUL ownership group. Anyone that defended Loria and/or Samson was out of their damn mind. Jeter on the other hand deserves a chance to show what he can do in all aspects.

Everywhere I've read about this story has said that Jeter wants to open it more in April and September.

With that said, fuck no way do I ever want it open again during a day game if it's not straight up cold outside. Today's game was unbearable on the third base side. I can deal with it but my wife and kid were not happy and were dying to leave because of it. I myself hated it too even though I sucked it up and dealt with it. I literally have a mild sunburn on my forearms. I'm not trying to be a bitch here. That's not easy for everyone to deal with and needs to be considered.

I'm gonna let them know about this too since they're so open for feedback. Open it more during night games but not day games.

I feel like fucking up something on opening day is kind of a Marlins tradition. Running out of hot dogs, having Scott Stapp perform, wheeling out a catatonic Muhammad Ali onto the field, having a rain delay in a stadium with a retractable roof, keeping the roof open in South Florida at 12:40pm. There could be more things I'm forgetting too.

That stinks man.  On TV the park looks great all sun splashed but I was thinking about the people on the third base line and wondering how it felt.  Stadiums always feel hotter on the inside than the actual temp/humidity readings would suggest.  I remember one summer when I was really young going to some games in Cincinnati.  The old Riverfront stadium was completely enclosed.  It was like the stadium was a giant skillet.

I was never ever ever uncomfortable during night games at JRS/Dolphin/Landshark/etc  Warm and sweaty?  Yes.  But nothing to complain about.  Day games….you guys know.  Marlins park probably isn’t designed to allow that cooler air to circulate in the way it could at the old park so it’s probably wrong to assume all night games could be open air.  I’d be interested to see the statistics on the number of games Marlins Park opens it’s roof and compare it to Minute Maid since that climate is most similar to ours.  Arizona isn’t a fair comp since you can get some cool desert nights.

One thing about the “skyline view”: it could be improve upon if that static piece of the roof which casts the shadow down on the bullpen/Clevelander area was made of the same materials that the sliding doors are made of (or whatever Minnesota used for the Vikings stadium).

Allowing a home run on the first pitch of a new regime

So when Happ hit that home run I laughed and smiled. It was hilarious. Why? Because it looked horrible at the moment but meant NOTHING. Yet last night and today on social media all the talk is about how that first pitch kicked off the Jeter era in disastrous fashion and how it's all downhill from here. It's amazing how stupid people can be. That one pitch changes nothing.

Because he came in here thinking that he didn't have to explain anything and people would just trust him because he is Derek Jeter.

And to this day has stuck to it.

Yeah. This is why I have found the forum refreshing. We as a at least a forum community have this belief that we are better. It might not show up on the field this year, but at least here for the most part we see that our organization is better off.

I think the Jeter hate comes from ignorance.

The FO needs to smarten up and have $5 seats available.

Get bodies in seats (and make more money at concessions)

For a Monday night game against the Phillies, it’s $47.75 for the 3 least expensive seats in the ballpark if you purchase tickets on the official site.   That is dumb.

This I agree with.
