They're new obstacles in an effort to bring excitement to the game....the players have to avoid them to catch the ball - bringing a new meaning to the "Bermuda Triangle" area in center field. Now that I look again with better lighting, is there really ivy on the State Farm wall or is it just black? In the renderings there was Ivy. I can't tell in that photo either, but it's possible they could've painted the wall black before they put up the Ivy (so there's no bright red from before peeking through the Ivy).
