Jesus Sanchez rated No.4 prospect in Rays organization as an OF....

Sanchez has done nothing but hit since signing with the Rays for $400,000 out of the Dominican Republic in 2014. After batting .329 between two Rookie levels in '16, Sanchez moved up to the Class A Midwest League in '17 and finished second in the circuit with a .305 average while homering 15 times in 117 games for Bowling Green. Sanchez continued to rake at Class A Advanced Charlotte last season, producing a .301 average that ranked fourth in the pitcher-friendly Florida State League. He also suited up for the World team at the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in July. Sanchez didn't fare as well after his promotion to Double-A in August, though, at 20 years old, he was nearly four years younger than the average player in the Southern League. After the season, the Rays added Sanchez to the 40-man roster.

Ryne Stanek is a 28 yo RHP, who is currently on the IL in AAA

2-5, 3.55 ERA MLB career that features 121 G and 56 starts

Those 56 starts are all “opener” starts.

Ryne Stanek is kinda bad, but should be serviceable (probably takes Anderson's late inning spot?) This trade is more about Jesus Sanchez. The Marlins took Nick Anderson, who basically didn't exist a year ago, and Trevor Richards, who literally throws one pitch, and got a top outfield prospect.

Sanchez yes but what's the deal with Stanek? Why him?

Every time I’ve seen him pitch which isn’t often he’s always looked really good.  Rays trusted him with a lot of opener roles the same way they did with Romo.

GREAT DEAL

Don't we have a lot more top 100 prospects now? It doesn't matter so much but it's funny since Jeter was ripped for supposedly not having any a year ago.

Well there’s also the fact that Michael Hill just made a trade with the Rays front office as time expired.  Who do you think handled that situation better?

I like Richards, but trading 2 guys whose future is likely in the bullpen for a decent relief pitcher and a top hitter prospect sounds like a great deal for me.

These are the deals that smart teams make: trading fringey, replaceable players for ones who have a chance to be special, especially in an area where the team has a greater need (i.e. hitting).
