Honestly, even if it takes a little longer, I hope they use the money to lock up our next core who ever it may be.  That to me that is money better spent than older guys in FA.  At least not to long term deals.  3 years and under at a reasonable cost to temporarily fill a hole is ok.  A young stud like Lindor would also be ok but I doubt we spend that much.  Continue to build from within and lock them up long term.

Basically the Braves method right now with Albies and Acuna. Get us some young talent locked down for a good long while and make it easier to plug holes later.

 

 

Ryne Stanek is kinda bad, but should be serviceable (probably takes Anderson's late inning spot?) This trade is more about Jesus Sanchez. The Marlins took Nick Anderson, who basically didn't exist a year ago, and Trevor Richards, who literally throws one pitch, and got a top outfield prospect.

They are planning to stretch him out so that they can use him for longer. He hasn't made a start since the 22 of july

 

 

Question... if a player is DFA'd the team has ten days to release or trade a player if they don't get sent to the minors... but the trade deadline has passed, those type of trades are still possible right? They've put a big emphasis on July 31 now being the only trade deadline but this has to be an exception right?

As always, teams will designate players for assignment, which means they have 10 days to run them through waivers, then either trade them or outright them to the Minors. Only now that July 31 has passed, the trade option is gone.

 

That means DFA’d players will be put through waivers and, assuming they clear, outrighted to the Minors. Players with five-plus years of service time -- Asdrubal Cabrera, for example, who will reportedly be DFA’d by the Rangers on Friday -- can refuse an assignment to a Minor League club and elect free agency instead.

So the only reason for the waiver period is for teams like the Marlins to dump contracts like Castro - assuming somebody is willing to take the remainder if the contract for veteran experience.

 

I liked the ability to trade better - teams would go into Aug/Sept. with the strongest rosters they could possibly have, which makes October baseball better.

 

Still not a fan of Manfred, or any of his sweeping changes.  We really need some of these team owners to tell Manfred to piss off with these rule changes.

Something tells me they'll change it this off-season. Next year will have still one deadline but probably mid-August like some have suggested.

I think waivers themselves still work like normal - if Team A claims a player from Team B, and Team B lets them go, Team 8 will get the player and whatever they're owed.  Just that teams can't work out trades for waiver claimed players.
