The pandemic definitely has accelerated things unexpectedly because of the short season and expanded playoffs but if you told us during the 2018 100 loss season (andafter that 2017 firesale) that we would be buyers and in a playoff spot at the 2020 deadline with 2021 expected to be a winning season as well I would imagine that most of us would have been happy with that.

So I get the name Connine is a thing. And Yeah I am with that. BUT Griffon is literally just another high upside super low floor talent bat.

I was cool with it last year, but It is so sad to watch some of these rookies have terrible at bat after terrible at bat. It is really really really hard to hit well in the majors down 0-2 every at bat.

I hope this is all just a response to the lack of minor league season, and COVID, but UGH it is so frustrating. The org loves these prospects, and it is well documented. It just feels more and more like the bet is a long shot, not a large scale parlay, but it is frustrating. I wish we could accumulate high floor prospects.

Getting a team's top 30 prospect (16 I believe) for 1 month of Villar sounds like a great deal to me regardless of name.

You don't get a reward for having lots of potential prospects. You get awards, and you win games by having good big leaders. Connine, and a number of other players in our system might never be good major leaguers, while all being good prospects.

Marlins were buying but didn't forget to sell on the way to buy.

You weren't going to get a huge return for Villar and his reckless underperforming ass would walk after the season anyway. Seems like an odd trade to be upset about.

I'm not upset about this trade. I think I am just upset about the rookies not hitting, and the constant fear that none of them might hit. And getting another one of these prospects is frustrating.

Same here. It's crazy. Saw a Twitter comment saying Jeter and Co were probably so frustrated with what they got from him. Someone's gotta do one of those expectations vs reality memes with Villar.

Villar has to be the most surprising player to ever suit up in a Marlins uni from my perspective - in terms of expectations versus results and just the "eye" test alone.  Good GOD he was facking obnoxious to watch play.  Don't get me wrong, I totally expect him to rake against Miami in this series but man, he was a tough guy to watch play without wanting to throw something at the tv at least twice a game.

I like how the defense of Villar was that his offense and defense sucked, but he stole bases. He also got caught stealing 5 times. 9/14 is not very good at stealing. He has had no patience and no power, and he made way more defensive mistakes than I expected.

The Marlins also have Berti, Alvarez, and Isan Diaz to play second base. They got a decent prospect for a guy who played a position where they have some depth, and the guy also wasn't panning out and was going to be a free agent after the year, anyway.

I think it's a solid move.

I liked Caleb more than most here. But at the end of the day, he was 29, so he wasn't likely to show huge improvement. He gave up 33 home runs last year, and while the strikeouts were great, the 3.5 walks per 9 innings were not so hot.

Since Marte is under contract for 2021 at a very reasonable price, I think that's a great trade.
