Das Texan
This is why he has no fucking business behind the plate, but he is a stubborn mother fucker and nobody is truly looking out of his long term health.

No, they just no longer wanted to be held liable if it got worse.

TaiwanMarlins
So we signed him to hope we would be luck enough to avoid it !?
TaiwanMarlins
It happens just right after we DFAd Lavarnway, should keep him in case something like this happen.

Lavarnway isn’t the third string catcher anyway.

TaiwanMarlins
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/08/marlins-to-place-francisco-cervelli-on-7-day-concussion-il.html "Should Cervelli miss an extended amount of time, the Marlins don’t have a ton of depth behind Alfardo. Chad Wallach is also on the IL, while four other catchers in Miami’s player pool (Will Banfield, Santiago Chavez, Julian Leon, and Brian Navarreto) don’t have any Major League experience." I believe Banfield is also on the IL (should be COVID), so is it possible this team to sign or trade a catcher to replace Cervelli ?

I assume Brian Navarreto.

Admin
And since Alfaro caught so much yesterday, it is probably safe to assume Brian will get the start today. Though it'd be his first career big league action so who knows.

SilverBullet
A little late to posting this because the transaction already happened but the immediate replacement had to be Navaretto because roster rules this year say transactions on road trips can only come from the taxi squad which Navaretto was on. This is exactly why a catcher must be part of the taxi squad always. If the Marlins wanna replace Navaretto they would have to wait until returning from the road trip.

You meant to say taxi squad, and good thinking.

Though it'd be his first career big league action so who knows. He was getting the start today automatically because Mattingly says Alfaro only caught 5-7 innings during his rehab and he suddenly had to catch like 13 innings yesterday and they weren't thrilled with that. The plan was for Alfaro to mostly DH for a while with Cervelli behind the plate. They were going to build up Alfaro's innings catching and they never got to do that. Navaretto might get a lot of starts this week.
SilverBullet
If they're going after Lavarnway then it means they don't think Wallach is ready yet because obviously Wallach was their next option here.
