Even if you don't want to count the postseason appearance because of expanded playoffs, they still did something that the team never did with Stanton, Ozuna, Yelich, and Realmuto- have a winning season. And against a pretty tough schedule I might add.

So essentially yes everyone got what they wanted... the Marlins added pitchers and got to the playoffs based on moves made in that offseason.

I'm defending my right to not be enamored with the 2021 team and why I went from someone who watched every game to someone who has no feelings one way or another with the current roster.

I guess the Marlins were just 2 pitchers away from a playoff appearance. They picked up Sandy and Elieser that offseason and they were both critical to the run last year.

I'm the same guy who celebrated the 2012 firesale, and whose favorite Marlin came from the 1998 one. I didn't say I wasn't a fan, I just said I don't care what this team does right now.

As bad as the farm was the team wasn't getting any better and was already starting to get expensive. 2017 was the highest payroll in franchise history. Jeter and company would have had to break the luxury tax threshold to fix the team with FAs. Rebuilding was the only way to quickly get back into contention. Staying the course would have seen the same results as the Tigers of around the same era but without any winning seasons let alone a playoff appearance.

The 2016 Marlins were built very much like the 2019-20 Mets -- a great pitcher, some great hitters, but zero farm system or pitching depth. It's a losing formula. And then, in 2017, they trotted out the same thing, minus the one good pitcher. That ain't "close," y'all. It's "pathetic."
