October 27, 20214 yr Yea this is oddly worded but it's cool, great for Miggy, almost silly how much faith he has in this organization at this point but I love to see it. I hope he gets to see some success on the field with them before long. It would be awesome.
October 27, 20214 yr Though I personally am happy for Miggy, and believe they should keep him around, he is pretty much just a fringe starter/borderline utility bench player and shouldn’t be considered a lock to play short everyday. This team has glaring needs at every single position on the field other than possibly RF and possibly 2B if Jazz can find some consistency and stop going into spurts of him trying to be Tatis/Acuña. The reason I say that is they should be one of the teams GENUINELY going after someone like Corey Seager to play Short, trading pitching at even an overpay level for a good, proven all around catcher, and signing a long term option for third base. So hopefully Miggy doesn’t give them a false confidence about their SS situation

Yeah I’m all for him being what they basically were using Berti for. I just feel that if they’re ok with entrenching him as the everyday short stop they’re just being cheap, or worse, don’t know how to properly value their talent.

So hopefully Miggy doesn’t give them a false confidence about their SS situation I'd be fine for him becoming the super utility guy that winds up playing daily at different positions, IF we make a major upgrade like the guys you're talking about - otherwise, we don't have much else ready to step in and take over.

BUT in the likely event we DON'T sign someone like Seager, Rojas > random washed up dude. That's what he's saying.

I bet Miguel was top 5 SS in NL last year

He was literally a tick under .500 in the worst season of his career where he was banged up most of the year. He had a 1.3 WAR on both fangraphs and reference... with just 264 PA. Extrapolate over a full season and he is at least a WAR of 3. In other words a solid starter... at his worst. He will probably bounce back next year. It would be foolish to give up on him. Not saying we have to give him a $100 million extension, but he is controllable for at least 2 more years.

Retain Berti, Pop, Campbell, and Isan as they have options left. Find a trade partner for Guzman or option Thompson in favor of Guzman.
