It's very idiotic. The roster structure is perplexing. Let's just look at splits (this includes defense potential):

RHP
Elite - N/A (maybe Soler as a DH if you get 2019)
Pretty Good Starter - Aguilar, Cooper (1B/DH), Soler (DH), Anderson (3B/LF), Wendle, Garcia, Stallings
Not so great but OK - Rojas (for defense), Soler (OF), Cooper (OF)
Replacement level - All their other bench guys
Unknown - Jazz, Sanchez

The problem here is, we put Jazz and Sanchez into "must start" territory for development (which they should be), the team then has one lame starter - this is either Rojas (hits RHP a little weak but the D is OK) or Soler/Cooper in a corner OF slot (might also be OK because they hit but defense is bad). This is giving up a stick (Soler/Cooper/Aguilar) or defense (Wendle/Anderson/Wendle). A CF - especially an elite one like Reynolds with the bat or Laureano with the defense - puts this over the top and we don't need to think about having Rojas not hitting anything batting 8th or LOL defense wherever Soler/Cooper is playing. They'd have 9 very strong starters and two pretty alright bench players (so if Sanchez/Jazz bomb as the unknowns, there is a high floor vs RHP). Depth is good.

They basically need an Anderson/Wendle level defender and bat for CF and this is an AWESOME playoff level RHP roster with depth. Anything more is a bonus. Kiermaier would accomplish this, but he doesn't hit lefties which is an issue.....

LHP

Elite - Garcia (incredible .900 OPS 2 year split + defense, I believe in him)
Pretty Good Starter - Aguilar, Cooper (1B/DH), Soler (DH), Rojas (hits lefties + defense), Stallings 
Not so great but OK - Anderson (as long as he defends, he is OK), and bad D - Soler (OF), Cooper (OF)
Replacement level - Wendle (defense is good, but doesn't hit. Must bench for me)
Unknown - Jazz, Sanchez < --- And they are lefties so pray

So your best LHP lineup is Stallings, Aguilar, Jazz/Wendle (pray), Rojas, Anderson (weak), Soler (defensively weak), Garcia, Sanchez (pray), Cooper.....

Jazz/Sanchez may not hit lefties even if they hit righties, and Anderson is notably weaker here. They could really use another guy who hits lefties and they'd have a decent middle of the order with Garcia/New Guy/Soler, Aguilar/Cooper at 1B, Rojas, and Stallings would be very solid, and then pray for Anderson being healthy, and Sanchez and Jazz breakouts. That's not as good as against right handers, but it could be pretty solid and become very positive with Sanchez/Jazz.

 

Considering they need the OF defense for RHP purposes, and everything for LHP pitching purposes.... and they have nothing in CF longterm and Anderson/Wendle for 2 years at 3B.... the smart decision is getting a CF of some variety, who handles LHP.
 

Reynolds hit .911 LHP and .915 RHP last year, career .817 LHP / .874 RHP

Laureano hit .858 vs LHP and .710 vs RHP last year, career .814 LHP / .795 RHP

Austin Hays .896 vs LHP and .683 vs RHP last year.... career .817 LHP / .729 RHP

 

The missing piece for sure. These guys are perfect and that's 3 different price points in prospects. These guys are huge upgrades and Reynolds would be a 600+ PA guy, and Laureano/Hays likely 500+ PA guys and just shade them against 20-30 tougher righties a year.

Definitely remember that 3 error game!  I dont think I have ever seen a player love looking so lost in a game before.

If you have a bad hitting but good glove CF then you can cover it with other bats but we even have no that.

I think it's reasonable to ask if they want to try a 1-2 month experiment in CF (not reasonable), they'd actually carry a defense first backup CF (very reasonable!). Especially with the extra roster spot which is why the Quinn/Deshields moves are so baffling. Berti has been pretty below average out there in his career 200+ innings. Garcia may be acceptable in a pinch if it doesn't cause excess wear/tear.

They have some big weaknesses against LHP and the defensive alignment is going to be wacky on all pitchers unless the choose the glove (Wendle) over the bat (Soler/Cooper/Aguilar/Sanchez/Jazz). I really dont understand not keeping Quinn or DeShields for their defense alone.  Its like they are purposely playing this game of we are smarter than everyone else, when everyone else is yelling at them like, THIS IS FUCKING DUMB TO HAVE NO ACTUAL CENTER FIELDER ON YOUR ROSTER.

Maybe they are gearing up to trade Aguilar for Kiermaier.

Rays are doing all sorts of shit including extending Margot. They could go Lowe-Margot-Azorena, and have traded for backup OF this offseason and have THREE FV50 OFs on the way on top of this. Aguilar is some bash for 1B/DH and probably helps more than Kiermaier in CF. Rays save $5m doing this trade and Marlins get a super high floor guy who is great vs RHP.  Marlins would need a lefty killer (any position), but that's better than current. It might be a 2 win improvement.

Also sadly, the Rays could trade 3-4 top prospects for a star OF here on top of all of this and have a really disgustingly good team. Maybe they need to shed some bucks to do that.
