Gary Denbo gone

Featured Replies

Good Riddance.

Should have been sent packing when Jeter left, tbh.

He had way too much influence and was stupidly stubborn along the way.  Now Ng has full autonomy hopefully and can make less dumb moves, and not have Denbo in people's ear and what not.

Let the moves begin!

To be fair, this is her second season. Many incompetent front offices have been in place longer.

the most alarming thing with her though was the fact she didn't and doesn't seem to understand how to do the simple day to day stuff a GM does.  That's something completely separate from trades, signings, etc.  The basic stuff any GM should be able to do. Hell, most of us here could probably manage to not leave a roster short for long stretches. I've never seen this level of imcompetence from a GM in my lifetime.

I have never seen someone get as many chances or as long of a leash as Kim gets.

It is always someone else is to blame. I am looking forward to seeing how it'll be spun when things are the same as they were. Who can be blamed next?

She’s a woman. They’re never wrong.

So, serious question. Why all the hate on Dembo? I'M genuinely curiuous.

Our Farm system is in very good shape.  Didn't he have something to do with that? I'm not defending him and I'm glad he's gone because he's a Jeter guy. I just don't know what he is being blamed for.

He was in charge of development.

We’ve had good hitting prospects since he’s been here to boost our farm system rankings, but it turns out that every hitter (except for Jazz) sucks.

That could be a reason why he’s disliked.

This team is in trouble. Jeter and co were building a respectable team and now we're stuck with Sherman.

Wait until Sherman leaves.

Then Kim Ng will be in charge 100%.

Let’s say Dembo was the one making the calls on promotions, free agency and trades. I don’t believe this but let’s make believe for a second.

even if that was true, what about her dumb roster decisions like playing a man down multiple times?  Did Dembo tell her to do that too?

Trying to sabotage Don for the long term gain of the team?

I dont know what to tell you.

You are really trying hard to put no blame on Kim Ng.

Maybe she just sucks at this job?

I'm going to give her benefit of the doubt for now. Trade deadline + offseason will be key. If she fails then still, it's on her (and maybe Bruce for not opening the wallet).

If it turned out Denbo was actually still silently making moves ... TBD!

Don would be next (though i support letting him go 1000%).

But she has shown zero signs of improvement. She is making the same dumb decisions this year as she did last year.

Agreed

I’d understand it happening the first season.   But it’s happening again this season.   I’m not at all saying there’s no learning curve….I’m at a new job that’s been a huge learning curve for me, and it’s been a struggle at times, but I’m learning from my mistakes and while new ones do come up, I’m not repeating the old ones.

On the flip side though, we’ve had good pitching go through the system.  Whatever evaluation system this group has used for hitters has been terrible though.

Long term gain?   Why on earth would she do that and risk HER job with poor performance, when she could just fire him and move on to this “long term gain” you speak of??

But thats a shifting goalpost again.

last year (for most) it was the trade deadline and offseason.   Now here we are again a year later with the same “end” date?

Yeah I know ... and I don't like it. But if it turned out we were lied to and she hasn't had full control until now, theeen ...

It just doesn't make any sense to me that Sherman would give Jeter's boy (Denbo) control when there were several reports that Sherman wanted Jeter gone. Doesn't add up.

I question Mish's reporting sometimes, but I agree with him here. I don't know if he actually knows this from sources or is just figuring it out logically like I did.

While I do believe what Mish is saying here, it is once again Craig reporting opinions as facts that he knows cannot be disproven and that he knows the team will not comment on. It's "news" because he felt like posting it.
