Honestly,
Leyland, Mckeon, Mattingly-- 50 feet of shit, Girardi- 50 more feet of shit and then the real fun begins.

Lmao I was gonna put this in my original post, my friends and I always made fun of his eyes and now when I think of Boles it's the first thing I always remember. I feel like I instinctively bug my eyes out at the sound of his name.

That's embarrassing. Why would he attend a Marlins event when he was part of the team for such a short period?

So, a few reasons.

First is they invited everyone back regardless of tenure. It was a pretty cool gesture I think. Only some made it on the field.

Two, supposedly his dad was in line to buy the team right in the middle of the 1997 fire sale. Part of the speculation as to why he became a Marlin, to entice his old man to up his bid. He would have never been approved tho, according to some in MLB (Sidetrack, imagine lasorda running the team i that alternate reality).

Three, he lived on Sobe at the time- just a 40 min drive for laughs. I thought it was pretty cool, so did the players.

Four, and this is the biggest. He’s a south Floridian. Went to school here at UM and MDCC for baseball, always lived in south Florida after that. His off-season and regular home when he was a Marlin was in Boca Raton, he viewed it as playing at home. I think some part of him wanted to stay a Marlin- although that changed when he became a Met legend. Supposedly he even wanted to play in Miami in 06, 07 and 08 but never got an offer.

He remembers all of his time playing in miami (87/88, 1998) pretty fondly in my opinion talking w him. Truthfully, all fandom aside- I think he’d be proud to represent such a shitty Fucking franchise if given the reigns/ chance. Unlike Jeter, who couldn’t have looked more miserable.

Ps: edit: out of all the former teams he played for- he’s only appeared in uniform for the Mets and marlins. I don’t believe he ever has gone back to dodger stadium, petco or mount Davis in Oakland to be recognized as their former players or event.
