I don't think she'll be able to pull it off as a lot of our "top" prospects unfortunately showed they kinda suck at the MLB level. I mean, anything is possible, but I doubt she'll do it (insert joke here about the Pirates GM losing her number).

Marlins will be more desperate to move major league pieces to land a real CFer, unlike this past spring when they were afraid to part with anyone. That's why I think it can happen. Definitely not betting on it though.

I'd be ok with @MarlinsLou suggestion of getting Nimmo as he wouldn't cost any prospects but I'm very concerned about that dude being able to stay healthy a full season. I'd GREATLY prefer Reynolds but Nimmo wouldn't be too bad either. Yes, Lou, I agree that Nimmo is a quality CFer but man..he just can't stay healthy and with our seemingly endless parade of guys with season ending injuries i don't see that ending well and i'd prefer they sell the farm for Reynolds. Still, it would be fun while he's healthy. sigh...i just want Trea Turner

Nimmo is very risky, but what are these guys going to do to bridge the gap? Who is the Jayson Werth acquisition? Is it the Nimmo gamble? Swanson/Correa/Xander? Edwin Diaz? Some ludicrous trade we can't conceive but it costs Eury, Salas, and Fulton and a "Yelich" comes back? I don't know the answer. Thinking like Bruce, I think it's Edwin Diaz (expensive, but less years than a position player so papa bruce is OK with it and easier to trade elite relievers, see Hader). They can clear the deck and fit him into payroll, the 9th inning will be fun (1 run losses?), and they have plenty of available players to trade for guys like an Arizona CF and Cleveland MI. This could even be Pablo/Garrett (who the Miami Herald thinks would be the two they move) if they then obtain some other cheap and effective pitching elsewhere. I can't see Eury/Berry going out in trades when they always need club control, so this seems like the cheapest option that could be very impactful and very fun. Two things this organization desperately needs. We shall see.

I think that would have to be Trea to make that a statement signing as the casual fan probably has no clue who Brandon Nimmo is. Unfortunately, they're really hamstrung by the two albatrosses named Avi and Soler to make much of a move on anything and I think they'll largely run the same roster out there again add/subtract a few grizzled vet bench type guys. and now again the part you'll disagree with.... DLC is as "good" as Soler and likely better once you factor in speed and defense and yes, overall cost. He ended up having a nice season overall (especially in comparison with the rest of the atrocities committed by this offense). He's not an everyday guy but he's certainly very serviceable on a team as a 4th OF type. I am still convinced Soler has no place being in a lineup every day and with the move to what should be a more speed/contact based game I'll take DLC over Soler if forced to choose between one or the other in the lineup. That said, I hope Soler retires and DLC is our 4th OF going into opening day next season.

I'd say it wouldn't even be a "Werth" acquisition at this point, in that it's a signing that's "a little early but points in the right direction" [if a high price acquisition occurs]. With the starting pitching, the team may already be "right there" and thus it's just a guy that pushes us over the top. 40 one run losses, just a little more offense and we're in. (shrug)

It makes the game more exciting too for sure. I honestly don't think there's a more perfect example of a guy they should pay at almost any cost than Turner. Imagine Turner and Jazz b2b in a lineup with someone like a Reynolds (to beat that dead horse again) behind them. Transformative. Not gonna happen. But transformative for sure. Edit: It also makes for a MUCH more engaging brand of baseball from the fan perspective. They won a WS with that type of team.....why they've not tried it again, I don't understand. We should have doubles machines with our still cavernous park, not worry about HRs.....I love HRs as much as the next guy, but it's ridiculous that we don't play to what should be our strengths. 1 hour ago, SilverBullet said: Honestly I could see them finally getting Reynolds this offseason. It's was stupid they can't see they need this big acquisition.

If they get a Turner, Reynolds, etc. then things start to change a little bit for sure. so yeah, Jazz will/should bat leadoff next year

That said, I hope Soler retires and DLC is our 4th OF going into opening day next season. DLC is probably not as good as Soler (I'll take the power potential), however DLC's recent bender has done something *very* interesting to his CAREER line. Remember, this guy was super BABIP'd out, then he regressed, then he REALLY regressed where points this year the BABIP got down to like .260 and he was a bottom 10 player in baseball (with Stallings sigh), and then he came up this last time and has been el fuego with another .400+ BABIP bender. So to say he is insanely streaky is an understatement, but overall now: 594 PA, .269/.318/.430 (.748 OPS), 6.4% BB/25.4% K, .333 BABIP (he fully regressed, this is high but reasonable) - 1.7 WAR. This is...... good? If you look at the splits, he's been great for 200 PA and virtually unplayable for 400 PA, but he was so good those 200 PA he has netted out to a really solid player overall. And now the more interesting part - it's a .278/.319/.457 (.775) split vs RHP. Not a world beater, but that's really really solid if he plays up. So I don't know what to believe here as he is an insane outlier in both directions. He's been horrible 2/3rds the time, great 1/3rd, and overall it is netting to solid through all of that. Is he lucky, unlucky? Is the career line a real baseline now? Has he earned a 40 man spot? Yes. Absolutely. Good for him. He has options so he can be kept. Now earn the job over Bleday/Sanchez/Burdick. I don't care who wins it if someone can dump a 2+ WAR in LF. And that can be a platoon.

Edwin is the "Werth" guy to me right now but we'll see how the offseason plays out.
