October 6, 20223 yr I agree with MarlinsLou in that we should be prioritizing trading our surplus for teams that also have a surplus at specific positions. Cleveland is a prime example as they have a glut of good young infielders and there is no way that they can play them all. Rosario, Gimenez, Rocchio, Arias, Freeman are all top-end potential. and there is no way they can possibly play them all. Tyler Freeman is the guy I like. We have a glaring need at SS and a pretty big need at 3B. Assuming Groshans takes up one of those spots, we deal to the Indians for whichever surplus we target. Given they have such a glut we can probably swing the deal without giving up Pablo which would allow us to use him or another pitcher to try and acquire our speedy high-contact center fielder. The upside is all of these guys are young (didn't realize Rosario was still only 26) so they still have a few years until they hit their prime and will be controllable. That will also give us a few years before whoever shakes out at our low-level middle infield/3B prospects in Salas, Cappe, Watson, Lewis, etc. So we could be set for the next ten years at the 2B/SS/3B positions. A Lewin/Jazz/Rosario or Freeman/Groshans infield gives them just about exactly what they are looking for. Unless we pivot at 1B and buy a few years so that hopefully Berry can plant his flag there for a while. Cooper is an option although he'll never be healthy and is better served as DH or trade-bait and prospects like Jerar or Troy Johnston could break out or fill in as well.

Great post - hey a baseball post! Yes. The other "glut" I am seeing right now are Arizona CF/left handed bats. They could *really* use a right handed bat (really anywhere) and they can't play all these OF at the same time (assuming Varsho not used as a primary catcher and mostly stays in OF which I think is safe considering he is a gold glove candidate). Thomas and McCarthy with them are the obvious ones to move, unless they do a Eury-Carroll move to Jazz-Gallen it again. I think Rosario (or any of those Cleveland SS... They are just as cheap as the Marlins so I imagine they trade the most expensive guy with 1 year of control) and Thomas/McCarthy is perfect on paper for fair deals. Even better if you can get Naylor/Jones added from Cleveland and pay up for them accordingly. Getting those 2-3 guys without moving any of the top 7 SP (including Eury there) would be an ENORMOUS win and it does seem doable with what the Marlins can move. We'll have to see what they do as other teams are likely eyeing these same depth issues for Clev/Ari, but I am imagining it is something like this as Bruce is cheap to a fault. Or as many argue here, Kim won't pick up the phone/be too passive and the lack of drive will make them suck again.

October 6, 20223 yr I think prioritizing contact and speed guys is going to be the way this game is going to start to trend back to, especially with the rule changes taking place next year. Its high time for that to happen, tbh. So its smart to pivot that way, I think picking up Groshans kinda tipped their hands though, and guys like that are Bruce Sherman's favorite type : CHEAP Look at the Cleveland team, they are a team built on pitching, defense, speed, high contact and they just went and won a division they had no business winning when the season started. They also have one of the best managers of the last 25 years, so that helps, but I digress on that point....

This is something we've all been clamoring for the Marlins to do for ages and they just refuse to budge off the BiG PoWerrrr dudes who are slow base cloggers that whiff 40% of the time.
