Yuli Gurriel SIGNS with Marlins

"The Marlins are considering what to do with the backup first base job behind Garrett Cooper, who has been on the injured list eight times during his five seasons with the team. Miami made a one-year, $3 million proposal to veteran first baseman Yuli Gurriel but pulled the offer after he waffled for a week. The Marlins are still willing to bring Gurriel to camp as a non-roster invitee if he’s interested."

My guess is they'd offer him the original deal (or close to it) should he make the roster. They just don't want to guarantee it upfront.

If this happens I'll never stop laughing at Yuli for not jumping on the original offer and then having to accept a lesser offer. What an idiot. When #bliNgbliNg knocks you answer the door.

Marlins is the only one team reported to make formal offers to Yuli, it's really stupid for him to not take that offer. He's not signed until now so it's clear nobody wants him and it's high probability he would end up signing minor league deal with us.

Agree, he was a fool for not taking the original offer.

Was? So he no longer is a fool?

This now has me thinking seriously about the grammar here... He's still a fool now but was is used because the not taking part happened in the past tense... I think that's the right explanation.

Gonna go ask a language arts teacher about this...

Should it technically be:

"He was and still is a fool for not taking the original offer."

Maybe?  I'm not an english teacher either....
