I didn’t even know about Bill Mueller being signed. That’s a name I remember from my youth. Fun fact, Bill Mueller’s Wikipedia hasn’t been updated to reflect his new job with the Marlins. Does anyone here want to do the honors?

Verbal agreement. Happens all the time. It's like high school athletes "committing" to a college two years before graduating high school. Those commitments change all the time, and so can this.

Can we get a countdown to opening day 2025? Seems to be the next date to actually care about.

TLDR version is perfectly summed up by their last line:  "Wash, rinse, repeat.  The Marlins are at it again."

 

Another summary - team doesn't spend, then doesn't contend, then trades vets, with an aim for the "future" whenever that may be.

 

There was a line about Kim "not having time" to work on hiring additional FO personnel in her "2" years in charge.......yeah, ok.......

you're trying to sell me that in 2 years - even if you're generous and call it 2 without the other folks adjacent to her - that she couldn't hir additional FO personnel to help in lacking areas?  Please.  That points even more to the fact she couldn't do more than one thing at once, which was one of her biggest problems.

They also panned the decision to not give Soler a QO and get the draft pick.

 

MLB needs to force Bruce to sell and bring in someone with actual money that'll run it like an actual team rather than the less-entertaining (vs. Loria) circus.

 

At least with Loria, he'd spend sometimes and make moronic trades that we could at least point to as reasons we weren't competitive that year.  With Bruce, it's always going to be "next year."

Kim did have time to add to the front office last offseason and she did with Oz Ocampo.

Yeah I just read it, really well done article. All true and all things Sherman can't possibly defend. He and Bendix declined comment Ken said, no surprise there. Not much they could say anyway besides the usual fluff.

A comment on the article brought an interesting point about revenue sharing.

 

With teams like the Dodgers or Mets spending so much, shouldn't that be ANOTHER source of additional revenue for Bruce?

Additional revenue sources I can think of off the top of my head since Bruce took over:

-Stadium Naming Rights Deal: $0 / year before, est. $10M / year = +$10M/year

-TV deal - est. $18M / year before, est. $40+M / year = +$22+M / year

-revenue sharing - not sure a figure on this, but it has to have gone up in recent years with the Mets spending alone

-playoff revenue - probably won't be a huge figure since we were knocked out early and didn't get a home game, but we'd still get something

 

So before a game is even played, we're talking an additional $32M (plus whatever revenue sharing and playoff revenue) that's been put in Bruce's account.

 

 

Payroll went up $13M last year.   So that's an extra minimum $19M that went into Bruce's pocket last year alone.

 

Given we've not signed anyone, according to Cot's, we're currently at $85.6 M......a $7M DECREASE from last year.....

 

aka, MORE money going to Bruce.

with the money he saved by not re-upping Soler they could at least release Avi and almost make it a wash

 

 

also.....MLB will not force Bruce to sell because that sets a precedent for all other owners who may at some point decide to just say eff it and rake in the proceeds by fielding a basement bargain cost team.  There are obviously some others who already do that.  Also, Marlins just came off a successful season and that "proves parity" which is the illusion MLB wants to sell to fans outside the top 8 teams that are in the mix every year.

No chance at that happening.  Give up that dream folks.
