Thor is walking around earth, and happens upon a fair maiden. He does not wish to reveal who he is, but he does like this girl.

They talk for a while, and eventually they head home for a night of passionate lovemaking.

In the morning, he decides to come clean and tells her, "I have to tell you something ... I'm Thor."

She replies, "You're thore?! I can barely walk!"

Was his "earth" name Mike Tyson?

This argument is so bad, please stop using it.

I'd rather get eliminated every year in October than in June/July.

There is always going to be an outlier or two though. (Really just the Rays though)

And the Marlins five years from now too!

Consistently good is something I'd like to have.

The Marlins have had a conversation with free agent Jorge Soler, who opted out of his 2024 Marlins player option for $13 million in order to become a free agent. They haven’t ruled out bringing him back if he settles for a low-money deal. But that’s considered unlikely; Soler is hoping interest in him will pick up in the weeks ahead.

▪ The Marlins’ lack of activity in free agency isn’t the result of any payroll ceiling set by owner Bruce Sherman, according to a source.

New president of baseball operations Peter Bendix has the authorization to improve the team in free agency. But two factors are in play:

1). Free agent spending traditionally has the worst return on investment, so Bendix wants to be cautious.

2). The free agency class hasn’t been very good in need areas, and Bendix didn’t want to overpay, especially on deals longer than one year.

Is your goal to just simply make the playoffs or win the World Series.

If the goal is the win that piece of metal and celebrate a World Series then they have failed.  That is a fact.

Spending doesnt guarantee that either though.  But its still a fact that the Rays gimmick ball ways has proven to not win when it counts.

Their ways are fine and dandy over the course of a regular season, but its been painfully obvious that its a failure when it comes to the postseason.  See Dodgers, Los Angeles who emply a lot of these principles as well and refuse to adjust to how the game is played come October.

Hmm. If Bendix is some kind of genius who insists there's nothing worth it in free agency and then goes ahead and still makes the team better through trades that'd be kinda wild. Also he's got some balls to stand his ground on this despite public and media outcry.

Goal 1 is to make playoffs and compete every year. Ultimate goal is of course winning it all.

You're right that the Rays have come up short of finishing it off, but I'd rather be in their position than the Marlins position and I don't even need to think about it.

Yes. But there is a massive difference between consistently failing in the playoffs and consistently not even getting there. This is true for both the organization and the fans. I can't believe you would argue that.

I'd rather win the fucking World Series.

@pollythewog has won the fucking World Series 5 years in a row. He took the title from @Michael who did it in 30 minutes. But @pollythewog is the reigning champion so you have some tough competition this year.

Failure is failure though.

I'm not sure what is so difficult about that.  It doesnt matter how you fail, you still fail.

Sure its better to consistently be good and all and then fail in the end (I guess), actually probably more frustrating to always fail the same ways largely due to your own fucking stubborness.

I’d still like to read that blog post about Gary Sheffield.

All fucking eyewash.

There have been numerous free agents that have signed for 1-2 year deals that were not too costly and yet it was too costly for the Marlins in spite of whatever they are going to try to spew out of the other side of their mouth.

Winning will always come secondary to making money.

If you wanted to win, you sign guys to 1-2 year deals while building the foundation you feel is lacking because you were impatient and didnt actually allow any foundation to set in your ownership history since this is really now the 3rd change in philosophy in what?  6 years?

This absolutely not true in sports. Are you serious? Competitive teams sell more tickets, attract more fans, attract other players, and it's an overall more enjoyable product for the fanbase. This is not the same for consistently bad teams. Are you new to sports?

Perhaps if that blog post was actually published he would have gotten voted in. 😔

The 1990s Braves that made like 14 straight playoff appearances weren't popular only because of their one world championship.

I wasnt aware this has been the case for the new model franchise for the Marlins.

Sell more tickets - no

Attract more fans - no

Attract other players - no

But yes, it is better to be treated to a more enjoyable winning product.  Too bad this ownership group doesnt want to win.

You're right. I could've convinced the writers. I take full responsibility.

Hey just would have needed 2 or 3 voters to have been convinced. 😂
