The reality of the situation sucks, but Bendix has a really tough job ahead of him to make this team truly competitive. Yes, dont sign guys to long term deals. Yes, sign guys to no more than a 2 year deal, as that doesnt really affect your depth especially given the absolute dearth of talent in the upper minors. Its a falsehood way too many fans have simply bought into, because well... take what ownership says at face value consatantly right?

Just step back from the emotions of rooting for this shit franchise and look at the best teams in the league....we cannot compete with them on the field or at the box office. Not even close. Gotta do it the hard way with draft and development. There were no amount of signings the Marlins couldve done that would have put them even close to the Braves. You arent competing with the Braves only in this era of baseball though. You are competing with basically the rest of the league for the 3 wild card spots. Plus winning birngs about fan interest which brings about increased attendance and even more revenue. Weak excuse for these actions again. Defeatest mentality. Unwinning mentality.

March 28, 20242 yr Way I see it. Berti is 34 now. He had one tool, which he hardly used last year despite getting on base more than ever. Granted, this may have been on Skip. He was OK defensively - versatility was nice but we have multiple guys who can do that now. I like the guy but I'm fine moving on from him. Don't care how it looks as far as "cost-saving" goes.
