Marlins' Trade Deadline Thread (July 30, 6pm)

who are ya'll blindly hoping to get back for Scott from the teams in the mix for him?  I typically don't follow prospects very closely and enjoy reading up about them after the fact but I know some of y'all are deep into the minor leagues so I'm curious who you think we might be getting back for him?

I’ve been wanting Basallo from Baltimore and I will stick with that.  We should get at least one top 100 prospect I’d imagine.

I know the Padres are interested in Tanner. I'd like to try and get Ethan Salas. Though Preller supposedly has made him untouchable which is understandable. Can't imagine he gets desperate enough to trade an "untouchable" for a rental.

Would like a top-rated catcher.  Basallo, Quero, Ford, Teel Blake Mitchell. Even Parada.

Might be a tough ask though so a nice package from teams with multiple top prospects like:

SEA- Emerson, Montes, Celestin, Locklear.

PHI- Painter, Miller, Crawford, Abel

MIL- Black, Pratt, Misiorowski

LAD- Rushing, DePaula

PIT- Chandler, Solometo, Ashcraft.

or just call the Orioles back and say Basallo, Mayo, and Beavers for Scott, Bender, and Cabrera.

Is Salas only untouchable because he's their only prospect with no ongoing undisclosed medical issues?

Baltimore might be out on Scott after what they just spent on Rogers.

Yeah unfortunately I’m thinking that too.  They do have a ton of prospect capital to use though, but maybe someone like Seattle might put a really good package together.  I just hope we get at least one bonafide, top tier prospect, and it would be awesome if it’s a catcher.

Will Schomberg in return for Chargois

Seems like a classic ray’s pitchedr - Schomberg is an undrafted free agent out of Davidson with elite breaking ball spin. He’s an older guy who had success throwing a lot of cutters and curveballs to Low-A hitters before his recent promotion

Heck of a return for Chargois. Wow.

He's only 23. Not really that old.

looks like he's hard to hit but walks a shit ton of guys.  hopefully Mel can do his thing when the time comes.

Mel’s tenure won’t be much longer though 😭

A 23 year old in A ball is quite old. I’m down with the elite spin rate though

he'll be a bullpen arm. i'm not worried as those types of guys don't need to excel at a super young age to bode well.  he seriously just needs to cut down walks (offhand, he looks like he's worse than Cabrera in that regard haha) and he should be fine.  He might just turn into Tanner Scott 2.0 if he can correct that part of himself.

Maybe he can stick as starter. He’s got a really funky arm slot too with the spin rate . It’s a VERY rays type move which I can dig especially for chargois who I don’t like so much.

Really, really curious to see what the Marlins get for Scott. Looking like it's going down to the wire.

My guess is the Orioles and Yankees are both out after the deals they've made. Maybe the Dodgers?

Maybe I’m wrong but like Skip, he seems like a Ng guy

If ever there was a time for Brucey to really pay up - he should do it for Mel.  Mel has done miracles with the shit he's been given.  I'd have zero issues with making him the highest paid pitching coach in MLB.  Wouldn't even think twice and retaining him would actually be a significant acquisition that the casual fan won't give two shits about but everyone on this board would be elated over.

Yup. Look what he did for Weathers this year, for example.

I'm guessing Eddie Cabrera is just an idiot, honestly.
