I get it, especially coming off an injury recently and a 8 run game... with that said- HOLY SHIT is Fairbanks and the bullpen atrocious. Its almost making me keep one foot off the bandwagon at this point.

I wouldn’t go THAT far but definitely wish I could have a foot on Fairbanks’ neck! Holy shit what an atrocious pickup he has turned out to be

It was the right decision. He is still building his arm back up following the IL stint.

I don't want a Johan Santana 2.0 situation personally.

It was a leg injury that had him on the IL.

He should have been given the 8th to see if he could have a quick inning. There’s been like 24 perfect games ever deserved a shot

Some things are more important than being safe with a pitcher. If it's a no-hitter, absolutely take him out. This is a perfect game, this is going down in baseball history. It's a pussy ass move.

A perfect game would light a fire under this team's ass, and huge for the fanbase as well.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then.

If he leaves him in and Eury gets hurt, he'd be getting ripped for that by most people. And he'd deserve it then.

And FWIW we'd be seeing most of the same complaints if it was a no-hitter also. Maybe not from you based on what you said there but from others.

I understand both sides of the coin.

From a casual fan perspective, it sucks to see him pulled out in a perfect game.

But, from an informed fan perspective, we know he was hurt and don't want the injury risk long term (gotta keep him healthy for when we trade him to the Yankees or something :P ).

I think it's smart from a injury standpoint, even if frustrating in a case like yesterday. I'm just glad they didn't blow the game....

I’d be interested in breaking down how many injuries to pitchers occur at 100+ pitches or directly after throwing 100+ pitches.

I just can’t recall any instances where it’s like the manager clearly got him hurt by leaving him in too long. I can think of plenty of instances where a pitcher who is being consistently thrown over 100+ pitches eventually gets hurt, but obviously that is not the case with Eury right now. Like others have said, we babied him in the minors, during his rookie year and he still needed TJ.

The Marlins have had one of the best bullpens in baseball this season, both in ERA and win probability added.

Fairbanks is obviously awful, but the rest of the pen has mostly been really good. One bad outing from Bachar (who has been great all year) and doesn't change that.

Uh, what?

The Marlins have gone 23-8 since the start of June. They don't need a "fire" lit under their ass. They're already one of the best teams in baseball. But you know what they REALLY don't need? Another Eury injury to a rotation that has already been decimated.

Let's pump the brakes a little bit. Based on record we're the 9th best team in the MLB, and currently would not make the playoffs. It's been a great run, no doubt, but there are still plenty of holes that need to be filled by Bendix and company at the deadline, if we really want to call ourselves one of the best teams in baseball.

And like I said, we babied Eury for years and years and he still ended up getting an injury. He had 92 pitches. To not even let him get to the most pitches he's ever pitched (102 pitches) when he has a perfect game. It's fucking embarassing. And I firmly believe Bachar's performance had to do with the odd situation he got thrown into.

In my opinion, neither side of the debate is wrong. It’s just one of those weird spots.

personally, he should have been allowed to try for a 9-11 pitch 8th inning.

Unless he was pitching a normal load during that time, it doesn't matter where his injury was. Still had to build the arm back up.

They had said they wanted him limited to 60 pitches this game, or something like that. I'm not sure what I had heard during the broadcast.

What if Eury gets hurt in the first inning of his next start? You can't be scared of that. It is what is. Show me proof that load management (pitch counts) prevent arm injuries and I will change my mind.

I hate that he was out, I would love to have a perfect game for this team, but even a perfect game is not more important than an entire young player's career
