I just sometimes feel like this team doesn't have a plan and just decides on a whim what to do.

Well he should not have said it unless he plans to actually extend him which I doubt.

He also said Bendix has authority to do what he wants (paraphrased) so he's got cover there if Sandy is traded.

It's a no brain to extend Sandy because they're in the win-now mode.

The problem with trading Sandy is that the pitching rotation is very thin to begin with. I'm not sure this an area where you can just keep moving chips towards the future and expect to be competitive.

If they think they are competitive this season, they should be buying.

If this is a lost season and they don't buy, he's only signed through 2027 which may not be played and will have transactions frozen.

So if you aren't trying to contend this season, don't extend him and don't trade him, you may just lose him for nothing. That doesn't make sense to me.

Marlins Open To Offers On Otto Lopez, Xavier Edwards - MLB Trade Rumors

The Marlins’ recent 12-game losing streak put a serious dent in their postseason hopes and ostensibly changed president of baseball operations Peter Bendix’s course at the deadline. While Miami isn’t expected to act as a pure seller, the Fish appear more open to making some sell-side moves if they bring back help in other areas of need. There have already been reports that they’re open to offers on catcher/designated hitter Liam Hicks. Today, the trio of Ken Rosenthal, Will Sammon and Katie Woo at The Athletic report that Miami will at least listen to offers on controllable bats, including shortstop Otto Lopez, second baseman Xavier Edwards and outfielder Heriberto Hernández. The Athletic’s report suggests that pitchers Sandy Alcantara, Max Meyer, Eury Pérez and young catcher Joe Mack are largely believed to be off limits.

It’s always worth emphasizing this year: listening on players of this nature is far different from shopping them. Miami certainly isn’t in a rush to push someone like Lopez or Edwards out the door, but there’s no harm in seeing what offers could materialize in what increasingly looks like a seller’s market. Several clubs are on the lookout for infield help and/or right-handed bats, all of which looks to be in short supply.

With the prospect of a floor and the upper teams possibly needing to cut payroll for a ceiling, now would be the time to BUY relatively expensive contracts by taking prospects in return too for moderate prospects. The free for all and overpayment for players when a floor hits and 12 teams need to reach for it is going to be bonkers. Thats how in the NBA players like Parsons and Mosgov got 4 years at 98 and 64 million when comparables before the lockout were 20-25 million.

Buy "overpriced" talent now while its expensive money wise because medicore talent is about to get paid to reach the cap.

I can see Sherman spending 50 Million for a year of Adeiny Hechevaria to reach the floor next year out of spite.

Where did Sherman say that Sandy won't be traded? I saw the recent interview with Sherman, where he heaped all of that praise on Sandy, but he clearly stopped short of saying he won't be traded and he stopped way short of saying he'll be extended.

They’re probably an average to below average team right now and perhaps above average team when healthy, but definitely aren’t a contender yet
